The discovery of a dead adult male on the grounds of the South Dakota School for the Deaf Tuesday morning is being investigated as a homicide.
The body was discovered shortly after 8 a.m. by a school maintenance worker at the campus, in the 1900 block of East 10th Street, according to Police Spokesman Loren McManus.
Brad Randall, the Minnehaha County coroner, has made a preliminary finding that the man died as the result of an assault, but an autopsy had not yet been performed by mid morning Tuesday, according to McManus.
While police by that time had not yet made a positive identification of the victim, “one of our investigators is feeling confident he knows who this person is,” McManus said.
“We don’t believe this is a random act of violence,” he added.
Whether the victim was in any way associated with the School for the Deaf had also not been determined, McManus said.
