Signing Santa All Ears for Deaf Children - Beckley, Bluefield & Lewisburg News, Weather, Sports
It was a merry morning for hearing impaired children all over Raleigh County. Jolly Old St. Nick made a special visit to the Beckley Raleigh County Convention Center. And Santa didn't need words to spread holiday cheer.
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year, Santa Claus signed.
"Everybody is just so happy," Langston Pinnex exclaimed. "I just feel so excited! I'm just so excited! It is just amazing."
And this Santa Claus doesn't need words to express his holiday joy.
"Santa Claus is know all over the world and he can communicate in all languages and sign language is apart of that," Santa said.
The Signing Santa event has been a long standing tradition for the quota club and it is just as memorable for the children as well as for Santa and volunteers.
"I mean they are just so excited," Nancy Dingess said. "When he starts signing to them it just opens up their world its wonderful!"
"Their faces just blooms, glistens, glows" Santa said. "They can relate to the sign language and communication with Santa Claus."
Jolly Old St. Nick has been visiting students for over fifteen years and taught 59 News Reporter, Lauren Hensley how to sign Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
The Quota Club has been sponsoring this event for over twenty years. Quota Club members said this visit with Santa is the largest turn out for the event with ninety people attending. If you would like to get involved in this community service organization, please click here for more information.
