sex change?

uh, miss know it all, birth certificate doesn't exactly prove the person's gender. DNA does.

If the DNA stated that you are a man... then what will you do????

if i ever have boy's, i'll have them circumsized.

i cant imagine how embarrased i would be if i was not circumsized, i dont want my son's to feel that way.

as for sex change - there should be a law that you must be 18+ to get a sex change - to prevent a sex change without the persons own consent.

unless there are medical reasons as to why they would need a sex change.

Excuse me, you talk load of rubbish!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My hubby and my sons dont have it. I has NO PROBLEM with it.

I believe a gender test should be done immediately to determine whether the child is male or female. I also believe it is best to just leave the genitals alone as long as the urine is able to be eliminated.
Yeah, but what does male or female MEAN? XY, or XX? What about indivduals with sex chromosome abnormalities? What are they?

Right deafdyke--
Also there are such cases that has XXY, XYY, et cetera which causes the child to have BOTH sexual organs or BOTH gender chrosomes so
IT IS NOT THAT SIMPLE TO SAY WHETHER IT IS MALE OR FEMALE!
Only recently (in the last century or so) the Western civilization has got fundamental about this "black and white" (male and female only) regarding sexes when it is actually one GIANT gray area!
Many levels are involved with the development of sexual/gender identities (sexual and gender are VERY different)....

I totally agree. The parents are very selfish. Sex change should be for over eighteen. OR medical eason like gender problems.

But there are teenagers who want to change their sexes to infuse their identity. Will you deny a 16 yr old male who has been grown up as a female since childhood an opportunity to confirm "her" identity by altering "her" body to suit the identity "she" assume since childhood?

Plus it is DIFFICULT to get a sex change operation ALREADY-- to add 18+ law makes no difference.
TRANSSEXUALISM IS CONSIDERED AS A DISEASE by AMERICAN PSYCHOLOGY ASSOCIATION! Just like they did put Homosexuality as a DISEASE and FINALLY removed it from the list of diseases/disorder in '73... But the "disease" of transexual is still listed there!

With the APA's listing transexual as a disease (mental disorder to be specific)-- Many applicants for sex-change operation CANNOT get it in U.S.A. unless they GET at least a year of therapy and move on with the operation ONLY with the psychologist's approval. (Canada has a similar law but their price for operation is cheaper which makes Canada the best place to get a sex-change operation SAFELY.)

Third Edition of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-III) published in 1980 that the American Psychological Association included, for the first time, the diagnosis of "Gender Identity Disorder of Childhood". ... The Fourth Edition of DSM published in 1994 states, "By late adolescence or adulthood, about three-quarters of boys who had a childhood history of Gender Identity Disorder report a homosexual or bisexual orientation, but without concurrent Gender Identity Disorder. ... Some adolescents may develop a clearer cross-gender identification and request sex-reassignment surgery or may continue in a chronic course of gender confusion or dysphoria" (page 536). From the result of my research studies, it now appears that a preventive treatment for transvestism, transsexualism, and some forms of homosexuality may have been isolated in these techniques of early identification

SO what is the point of adding more restrictions!?
Liberate the transexuals-- let them live out their life as a being they want to assume-- even though it may be a sex identity that differs from what lies between their thighs.

Ok. this is an easy one. I'm glad you asked that question.
XX or XY is a chormosome that identifies whether we are male or female.
Down syndrome is the case of an extra chromosome because we all have 46 chromosomes, which means they're a rod shaped portions of DNA organized in 23 pairs. Each parent of a child provides one of the two chromosomes in each of the 23 pairs of chromosomes. At conception, 23 maternal and 23 paternal chromosomes unite within a signle cell called the zygote. These 46 chromosomes in the zygote contain the genetic blueprint that will guide cell activity for the rest of the child's life. What this means is....both parents each provide 23 chormosomes when a child is conceived that unite and form a single cell called the zygote. This zygote is the make up of who they are. Their genes are in this.
what you're asking about chromosome abnormalties...Down Syndrome is one form of a chromosome abnormalty, thus, having an extra chromosome in the 21st pair Down Syndrome, or Downs, is the most frequent cause of mental retardation. This usually occurs when the mother is unusually young or old during pregnancy.
Fragile X syndrome is a disorder produced by injury to a gene on the X chromosome, which produces mild to moderate mental retardation.
This next syndrome is a little more complicated to pronounce, but it's Klinefelter's syndrome, which is a disorder resulting from the presence of an extra X chromosome that producses underdeveloped genitals, extreme height, and enlarged breasts. THIS is the syndrome you're looking for. THIS is the syndrome those who have genital disorders, hence, giving the individual confusing looking genitals that make them either male or female. Sometimes this is can be corrected with surgery. This syndrome is quite common...more common than we think, and it's only now that it's come to our attention, that people do suffer from this syndrome. It's not a disease, it's just a condition that the sufferers live with, and they dont die from it.

oh no! again?? next time ur paying me this time!!

Yeah, I know what chromosome abnormalities are....I have a chromosome abnormality myself....but say are people with Turner's Syndrome male or female? (i remmmy reading that a percentage of TS girls have Y chromosome materials) What sex are people with numerical sex chromosome abnormalites? Are they classfied as male or female? Isn't there anything in between? If people with numerical sex chromosome abnormalites aren't male or female does that mean that I'm not human b/c I'm missing a part of a chromsome?

i know we are being off-topic but can we get back with topic about sex change?? lol

yes, sir...so unlike transexuals, they hardly have a choice when their sexes are not accurate, whether it be a parent's request they have this surgery, or the doctor's....it's hardly anyone's fault, but when DNA determines the sex of a child or person for that matter, then the operation is to be taking place...and IF the passage for urine is blocked, chances are, surgery takes place.

absolutely not. It's just a missing chromosome...DNA picks up on stuff like determining male or female...testerostone levels usually picks up on the gender of a person. There's NOTHING in between. Just because you're missing a chromosome does not mean you're not human. What it means is that part of your chromosome has not developed like it should have, therefore, giving you a harder time figuring out what your gender is just by looking at you. They've got to give u blood work to determine your gender....This blood test called Karyotype tests for Turner's syndrome. The most common characteristics of Turner syndrome include short stature and lack of ovarian development. Do you have any of these problems? Heart problems, kidney problems or thyroid problems are the most frequent health problems that can occur.
Turner syndrome is among the most common chromosomal abnormalities, occurring in about 1 out of 2500 live female births. Approximately 60,000 girls and women are affected in the United States, with approximately 800 new cases being diagnosed each year.
Turner's affects women and girls....so that means you're a girl.
