Jamaica Gleaner News - School for the deaf puts on fashion show - Entertainment - Thursday | October 28, 2010

There were technical glitches throughout the event but the contestants in the Mr and Miss Danny Williams School for the Deaf competition certainly enjoyed themselves.

At the event, which was held at the Hope Estate-located school in St Andrew on Friday, 14 students beamed as they took the stage.

Though unable to hear, the 14 contestants danced to Bruno Mars' Beautiful Girl, executing the choreography wonderfully in their opening piece. For their efforts, they were rewarded with a large applause from the other students, staff and guests in attendance.

Afterwards, they introduced themselves using sign language, showing off their personalities in the process. This was followed by performances from winners of the Miss Orange Blossom pageant and Tivoli Dance Troupe.

The contestants also danced, did the hula hoop, told stories, sang, played the drum, did poetry and showcased fashion designs.

Unfortunately, during the process the music stopped abruptly on many occasions.

Reverend Perlena Henry from the Prayer and Deliverance Ministry in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, also presented a cheque to the school, after speaking about the numerous challenges and triumphs of her daughter who attended the school years ago. She also presented trophies to all the contestants.

In the end, Jamardo Davidson and Xavian McFearson were crowned King and Queen, respectively.

Jade Gordon was announced as princess and Shamar Walford as the prince.
