After accomplis-hing many sports accolades this year, yesterday the school for the deaf hosted sports awards in which outstanding players were awarded.
The event was held at the school’s main hall and was attended by pupils and teachers only.
Also present were representatives from the Swaziland Schools Sports Association, the Swaziland National Sports Council and Swaziland Association of Sports for People living with Disabilities. This year alone the school was crowned champions in the SSSA volley ball and netball tournaments. The school also won gold in a competition organised by Community Health Evangelism (CHE) for local schools.
School for the deaf high has just been crowned netball champions in the Swaziland Association of Sports for people with Disabilities (SAPED) SPTC tournament.

The school also had two participants in last year’s Zone Six games which were hosted by the country in December.
Principal at the School, Zodwa Thwala said the awards are meant to appreciate what the pupils have achieved and what they have done for the school.
Thwala said although the event is not glamorous as they wanted it to be because of lack of finances, it will surely award the outstanding sports stars of the year.
Sports teacher Mdumiseni Hlawe said it was high time deaf people are selected to national teams for all the sporting codes.
Hlawe said considering the performances by most deaf athletes, one can say they are better than most able athletes in the country.
SAPED representative, Frank Maziya commended the school’s administration for hosting the event which he said will encourage deaf pupils to achieve more next year.
