Brownsburg School Bus Aide: School bus aide accused of inappropriate contact with student - fox59.com

Is it appropriate for a Brownsburg school bus aide to kiss a student on the cheek or face? Fox59 News has obtained a police report that details allegations of an 11-year-old student from the Indiana School for Deaf. The report says 70-year-old bus aide Bobby Schrout kissed her and touched her on the face. Brownsburg police are investigating while Schrout has resigned.

"I'm surprised we weren't notified until now," said parent Charlotte Taylor. "Especially to prey on someone who has a disability is huge."

The report says the alleged victim is an 11-year-old. Schrout has talked with police and we reached him by phone.

"I did not kiss her on the cheek, I kissed her on the forehead," said Schrout.

He said it was harmless.

"I mean, nothing has ever went wrong, nothing."

The report also says Schrout insisted on putting the seat belt on her, even though she said she could do it herself, which made her uncomfortable.

The principal, Mrs. Rinne advised she spoke to another student who confirmed the bus aide had kissed the 11-year-old on the face.

"You put somebody that's supposed to be watching your kids and helping your children in a position that could harm your children," said one angry parent who spoke to Fox59.

Reporter: "What do you have to say to parents who have a lot of concerns that you were belting other kids in on the bus?"

Schrout: "I haven't done nothing wrong. I don't strap her in, she straps herself in."

The Brownsburg Police Department released the following:

"On Monday, November 29th, 2010, Brownsburg Community School Police took a report from the Director of Transportation for Brownsburg Schools that an ISD (Indiana School for the Deaf) student had made allegations that she witnessed a BCSC (Brownsburg Community School Corporation) Bus Aid kiss a female juvenile student on the cheek. The witness reported this to her school officials at the Indiana School for the Deaf, as both the witness and the female juvenile victim are both students of that school. The female juvenile victim was spoken to by ISD staff and she confirmed the allegation."

"The ISD Principal made contact with the BCSC Police, which then contacted the Brownsburg Police Department Investigations Division. The Brownsburg Police Department is currently investigating this allegation. All evidence collected by the BCSC Police has been turned over the Brownsburg PD Investigations for review and further investigation."

"The Brownsburg Community School Corporation took immediate action once receiving this report and the suspect has been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the criminal investigation. At a later date, the suspect resigned his position with the BCSC."
