It is better to leave it alone. I can attest to that. I have a shunt implanted in my brain that's been there since I was about a month old. Over the years, it's been debated whether or not the shunt is still functioning due to my body's ability to compensate for the fluid build up. The question has come up whether or not removing the shunt would be a good idea. I was told absolutely NOT! It is NOT a good idea to go in there and try to remove it, because, it is so deeply imbedded in brain tissue that removing it would actually be more dangerous to me than leaving it alone would be. I don't know if this was true in Terri's situation, but I would guess that was probably why they opted not to remove the implants.
