I am thinking about having a USB scanner(mostly for A4 size document scanning ) for my computer .. I want to scan photos and especially books so that I can transfer and share knowledge on the net . I need a balance between price and performance.

What would you suggest I buy ?

There are a few things you should consider... how much quality do you want the scans to be and how often will you use it?

If you won't use it much for pictures, just documents... then a nice cheap scanner would be good enough.

If you do plan on scanning pictures, then a better scanner would be good.

If you want the best quality possible, then you better look at high-quality scanners.

I have a friend whose mom was so crazy over pictures of her new grandson that she scanned one picture of him into a size that was 25 MB!!! Jeez! She didn't even understand what was wrong with the size until my friend pointed out that a good scanned picture should be 1 to 2 MB... not 25 MB! Heh!

Thanks for the answers.

I want to scan both documents and photos.. but document scanning is a bit more important

Sounds like you don't care much for "super quality" images. You can get a good decent scanner for under $100 or something. :)
