Let's say that I want to sell a red bike on craigslist. I download pictures on my computer. I name my files as: Redbike, Redbike1, Redbike2 and so on.

I get the bike sold. Should I delete the files or should I just overlap them?

When I get another red bike, I can put Redbike, Redbike1, Redbike2 and so on. The new pictures will just overlap old pictures.

When you say overlap, I believe what you mean is the new photo file named "Redbike" deletes the old "Redbike" and replaces it. That can work as long as you have the same number of red bike pictures for the new bike as you did for the old bike. However, to be less confusing it's better to either delete all the old red bike pictures first or use a different name for the new red bike. It also depends on how you store your photo files. If you like to keep a historical inventory, you should use something other than your hard drive for storage so you don't clog it up with too many files. Maybe also use chronological sub folders for your sales.

There are many different ways to set up your photo files. Whatever works best for you, other than keeping them all permanently on your hard drive.

I typically don't keep pictures of any items that I sold on computer unless they were cool. If it was just another red bike, I will just delete it. If it's really cool, I keep it for memories.

delete.

I agree with Jiro. It's nothing to take another quick photo of the new bike and post it. Saving pics are just going to take up space on your hard drive.

If you overwrite a file, you can't get it back.

If you delete a file, it's sent to your recycle bin. If you change your mind, you can restore it unless the recycle bin is emptied automatically or manually.

It's up to you.

If you want to save a lot of images/video, I recommend that you buy an external hard drive to store them. Amazon.com carries over 3,000 of them. The prices are lower nowadays. For 1 TB external slim portable HD, the average cost is $70.

1 terabyte for an external hard drive? Now THAT is storage I wouldn't mind having. I have two removable disks-- 1 GB and 4 GB, and I need an upgrade on both soon.

I also have 1TB external drive, and I bought one for a friend. They're nice to have.

I can imagine. I'm already drooling about that much storage. *Picks up jaw from ground* I'll need to figure out how to get one of these.

Watch for sales to get a good deal. I got mine when it was on sale plus I used my reward points to get a discount.

Any suggestions on where I can find them at? I don't think Walmart or Target would carry those; I'm thinking I'll have a better chance at getting one from Office Max or Best Buy, as they're more likely to carry them.

I got one at Staples, and one at Best Buy. Search on-line and compare prices.

I shall do that. Thanks for your suggestions.
External & Portable Hard Drives : Best Buy | 1TB - 1.9TB | Seagate | WD WD - Best Buy

WD and Seagate are the best. Some of them are on sale now. They may be available at your local Best Buy store. If you have USB 3.0 ports in your PC, data transfer will be faster. If not, it's backward compatible with USB 2.0 in your system anyway.

Thanks man. I'll check it out. I do not have USB 3.0, but I DO have USB 2.0, though. I appreciate your efforts.
