This is the season for good deeds, for hearts to warm with tales of kindness, a time for sweetness of character, for thinking of others, for putting into practice all the commandments, from Moses' 10 to the Boy Scouts' 12, to all those admonitions our grandmothers pounded into our brains over countless Sunday dinners.
This afternoon at 1:30, six days before Christmas, an event most wonderful will occur at the Mississippi School for the Deaf.
Santa himself will drop by for a visit, to hand out gifts, to give flesh-and-blood evidence to the ideals of the season.
Each of MSD's 55 elementary school kids will sit on Santa's knee and through a sign translator let the big man know their Christmas wishes.
Presents will be distributed to each child. Candy canes and cupcakes and M&Ms will be ingested and it will be a jolly time for everyone.
Most especially for the grown-ups, who look to the children this time of year for sweet inspiration.
