Mods: I dont know where to put this but you can move it to proper list.

Here the link of sandstorm in Iraq about to consume a US military base. Freaky huh?

Sandstorm in Iraq

Thats pretty freaky. I wonder how long something that big lasts. Whats strange is when its in the distance, it looks like its moving slow...until it hits that roadway and then you realize just how fast its coming in.

That is definitely freaky and enormous! I also wonder how long something of this magnitude lasts and how often--and the cleanup involved afterwards, effecting machinery, going thru stockpiles of brooms ( ), etc. This sure was an incredible footage of a sandstorm taking on a military base in Iraq....

That looks pretty eerie and stormy, I wonder how fast it moves when ur close to it. I'm guessing the wind are churning the sand at over 100 miles per hour.

Some people are incredibly stupid. When you see a sandstorm like that, you have to run for shelter. Don't stand there and film it! You will literally lose your skin by going through a strong sandstorm if you don't have the proper protection. A preferable shelter would have to be capable of standing strong winds and walls that the sand won't be able to break down.

A tent can be torn apart in a flash if the sandstorm is strong enough.

I didn't know sandstorm can cause completely darkness. That sure is scary...plus if youre outside in the dark, skin will hurt from sandblasting and they get in eyes, nostrils, ears, etc. Now I'm more worried about my husband's cousin who is in the service in Iraq. He's only 24 years old. I'm sure they have procedures to follow thru of what to do during sandstorm. I've never seen a film of sandstorm of this massive. Whoa!!!

How is that possible if you lose your skin in the sandstorm like that? I know they can wear clothings and googles to protect your eyes and a hood to cover your hair but lose your skin in the sandstorm? How is that possible?? I am sure the tent can withstand the sandstorm if they have good foundation to have strong support to hold the tent up.

If the tent is weak or poorly pitched, it may not hold up too well against a sandstorm depending on the wind speed. Just don't use any cheap tents because of the cheap fabric and that it's not completely sealed. Not even closed windows in houses can keep the sand out. There even have been U.S. military choppers that crashed in desert sandstorms because of the limited visuality.

People in the video certainly weren't wearing ANY protections at all. At least it didn't look like it. Why would one take the chances to stand out wearing no protection? That's just stupid. You have to cover your face, or the sand will go up your nostrils and into your mouth. For these with asthma problems, they shouldn't be outside at all.

Sandstorms, if violent enough... harm your skin especially when you aren't wearing any protection gears. It also depend on the location and how long it lasts. It's not often that we hear of casualties in a sandstorm. In fact, I don't think I've ever heard of one. But people can end up going to the hospitals for minor injuries caused by sandstorms.

Now... how is it possible for the sandstorm to be harmful to your skin without protection? Well, take a sandpaper and put it against your face... then sand away and see what happen. But like I said, it's only if the sandstorm is really violent. According to BBC, the one in the video didn't injure anybody, or damage any equipments. So, that's a good thing... but people were sure stupid for walking around wearing nothing to protect themselves from, not even a cloth covering their nostrils and mouth.
