My dad has the iPhone 3, he bought the iPhone 3 from a friend of his from work for $100. And now he's planning on maybe buying a new phone. He's looking into the Samsung Galaxy Note and the iPhone 4S. He seems to like the Galaxy note more over the iPhone 4S. But he's nervous about making the wrong decision and is afraid that he might like the phone over the other of whatever he chooses. Personally I told him I perfer the iPhone 4, because of the texting, the smooth functions on the phone, etc.

I saw the Galaxy note up close in person and the thing is HUGE. Its bigger than my hand. You can fit the Iphone into the Galaxy note's screen. What i don't really like about the note is the texting. Since the phone is big and the screen is bigger, its hard to text on it. And What i like about it is that since i'm an artsy person, the note comes with a special touch-screen pen which allows you to draw on the phone easily on an app. I wish they kind of make those pens for the iPhone 4! I wonder if they do.. :hmm:

I still love my iPhone 4. I don't have the 4S. My friends who have the 4S have told me that they don't use siri as much as they thought they would be. And honestly, i could care less about the siri. Siri may be handy, and very useful to use for whatever, but I don't think its that important really.

So i'm kinda getting off topic here. I kind of want some people advice for my dad for the Galaxy note Vs iPhone 4S or their opinions on it. He REALLY needs a new phone. his iPhone 3 sucks, and its very slow functioning, he needs to upgrade really bad. My mom and I have already upgraded our phones. My sister might be getting the White iPhone 4S for her birthday in july. But still!

another quick question about the iPhone 4.. Can people with At&T with iPhone 4 upgrade from the 3G to the 4G in their phone plan? I keep hearing that they can't, but i'm confused!

It really depends on your dad. What does he like about Apple and what does he like about android? Is he the one texting on the phone or you?
If he doesn't have an android account, he would have to buy apps all over again once he switches from Apple.

The reason why the Galaxy Note is a little bigger is due to the pen. They made it as a 5" screen in mind so there is more room for using the tablet mode.
If you think the screen is too big, the Samsung Galaxy S III just came out this month. It's smaller, but more powerful than the note and it doesn't have the pen. It also has LTE.

I wouldn't bother with the 4S, the iPhone 5 is coming out about 3 months around the corner and should have LTE support if he wants to stay AT&T or Verizon.

this is the confusion about iPhone speeds:

AT&T, Tmobile: 3G means UMTS internet speeds
Sprint, Verizon: 3G means CDMA internet speeds

AT&T, Tmobile: 4G can mean HSPA+ internet speeds
Sprint: 4G means WiMAX internet speeds (although Sprint iPhone 4 doesn't have WiMax, only some of their androids. There is a special WiMAX adapter for iPhone.)
AT&T, Verizon: 4G also means LTE internet speeds

in terms of speeds: LTE (very fast) > HSPA+ > WiMAX > UMTS > CDMA > 2G EDGE, GPRS (very slowww). You can't upgrade the speed, only change the phone and carrier. Not all phones support the same speeds. And there is no LTE iPhone right now, also you can use an iPhone on T-mobile but you only get 2G speeds - it's really slow

My dad likes how you can use the pen. He's wanting to use it for like an agenda planner, notes, work, etc and that its a little bit more accessible for him :dunno: I mean, at least that's what he says. He also likes how the back is a hard shiny plastic protector and that he uses alot of the phone battery. He just keeps saying that this phone is really really cool. But i think part of the reason why he likes the android so much is because my uncle (his brother) has a droid, and I think its because he wants to experience the different technology out there.

I have the Iphone 4, and My dad found out about the 4G. He never heard about the 4G up until yesterday, and I told him its just a faster speed, and He's probably going to want to upgrade to the 4G. We have At&t. We had the 3G for awhile and I personally think it sucks. My internet is slow all the time, including when i go on facebook and instagram, and texting as well. But for some reason my friends keep saying that with the iPhone 4, you can't upgrade the 3G to the 4G. :hmm:

Hmm. I guess the pen is good for some people, but for others it is not needed. Some people rarely use the pen since they don't have a use, it depend on their habit. For older people with bad eyes, any bigger screen will always help them.

He will probably only be able to write less than 3-4 sentences for each note because it's harder to write smaller on a tablet screen. It may be more of a novelty for him, maybe before he agrees to buy he can try it out for a week but it will be hard for AT&T to let him borrow it, if the store likes him then they will.

The best thing I feel is good about Galaxy Note is because you can take picture of a map on GPS and draw a route, highlight a road, and email or MMS text it to someone else. Or can write on photos, drawing (for art people), etc. That's the good part that other phones can't do it.

They were right.

I hope new iPhone 5 will release next month with 4G ready.

att iPhone 4S is already 4G support (HSPA+).

Do you believe that? My friend own iPhone 4s under ATT and he said ATT lied since it's same speed between 3G and 4G.

I think it will be released on September or October but will listen from Tim Cook at WWDC next two weeks. I hope that iPhone beat Galaxy S III or Note.

I dislike too big screen of Note. I favor 4" or 4 1/2"..

AT&T iPhone 4S Now Has 4G…Kinda-Sorta - ABC News

It was ITU redefined HSPA+ as 4G.

It looks very confused to label 14.4Mbps as HSDPA or HSPA+.
AT&T To Roll Out HSPA+ 14.4Mbps Broadband Network In 2010

It means iPhone 4S isn't 4G if 14 mbps is classified as HSDPA.

It looks like Apple or att need be sued for misled advertisement.

Some of Verizon LTE feels like 3G.

GSM iPhone 4 doesn't support HSPA+ due to older modem, I think. GSM iPhone 4S supports almost HSPA+ speed.

HSPA+ is around 800+ KB/sec speed, can go up to 1000+ kb/sec. I got around 850 KB/sec on my Incredible S with AT&T easy on good hours no traffic. Normal HSPA was around 300-500 KB/sec. You can try Speedtest app to see it: App Store - Speedtest.net Mobile Speed Test

I looked up modems of iPhone 4 and 4s, confirmed:

Apple iPhone 4 - Full phone specifications
HSDPA, 7.2 Mbps; HSUPA, 5.76 Mbps

Apple iPhone 4S - Full phone specifications
HSDPA, 14.4 Mbps; HSUPA, 5.8 Mbps

HTC Incredible S - Full phone specifications
HSDPA, 14.4 Mbps; HSUPA, 5.76 Mbps

Samsung I9100 Galaxy S II - Full phone specifications
HSDPA, 21 Mbps; HSUPA, 5.76 Mbps

True HSPA+ is rated 21 Mbps.

Some Android devices from T-Mobile are 42 Mbps HSPA+.

My Android phone is 21 Mbps HSPA+ since iPhone 4S is only 14 mbps HSDPA.
