Saab 900 and 9-3 models.....Probe and Mustang....

I saw a 1999 Saab 900 for sale on Craigslist yestersday. I was surprised. I had always thought that the Saab 9-3 models replaced the 900 models and that that 9-5 models replaced 9000 models. I did not realize Saab made the 900 AND the 9-3 models.

Do you remember back when Ford wanted to make Probe and have it replace Mustang?? A lot of Mustang fans wrote letter protesting this move. Those Mustang fans were very, very upset back then. Ford wised up and made Probe and Mustang as 2 separate models.

As of now, it seems like Probe are out of production, but Mustangs are still being made.

Interesting???

i really like the classic Saab 900, in fact id love to have one, very sensible, quickish car but relax, its got Style!
 
I crashed my 9-3 and bought Xterra.
 
One of my friends from high school got a 1985 Saab 900 sedan from a co worker. When he tried to do oil change, he found that oil pan was weld. He was very pissed off. He did not keep the car very long after that.

My brother had a 1995 Saab 900 SE 5 door hatchback. I got to drive it too. My brother now has a Saab 9-3. Not sure if it was a coupe or sedan. I would have to ask him.

I'm not that crazy about Saabs, but I would not mind having one of the 1994 and newer 900 models or the 9-3.
 
I drove Saab two doors (cant remember what model it was) with turbocharger and manual. It was alright.
 
Saab are stinky....if you want a Saab car too bad, you have to be a good mother to take care of this car. Lot money to fix fix fix... need $2K to spend the car repairs annually. No funny....
 
I am happy to see the Mustangs back but real sick to see the SOHC engines... pretty body and interior.
 
Many years ago, I had a Saab 900 (I don't recall what year maybe like 1990) for oil change upon a customer request, raised this car (on the lifting rack), grab my tools and oil drain container and brought to the bay to changing the oil. I came to looking under the car, stunning to see a complex engine/transmission like I says where is transmission? I took a close look at the huge oil pan, and stumped me, wtf. I see the transmission unit is mounted to the bottom of the engine block. I found 2 drain plugs from one oil pan, loose one plug and dip oil onto my finger and sniff it to see if it is engine oil or tranny oil. Scary... The (bleep) Saab motor/tranny that one I never see it before, like you happen met a Siamese Twin couple. If the oil leaks from the pan, you have to take the entire engine/tranny out of the vehicle... lot money to fix the leaks...
 
Siamesed Saab engine/tranny... Is this car you want?....

Take 2 days to replace pan gasket or re-seal pan and put it back in the engine compartment. If mistake, do over again... Good thing I didn't fix it but already replaced A/C compressor and alternator before... bit difficult job.. I am happy the oldie 900s are not around anymore.

Is it easy for a Jiffy or Meineke mechanic to change oil in Saab?? You know how they have all those signs for $19.95 oil changes in CHicago area. I bet that a mechanic would wish to charge more than 19.95 for an oil change in Saab seeing how difficult this is, but are stuck doing an oil change in Saab 900.

Mustang never went out of production, didn't it?? My girlfriend's Mom has the 40th anniversary 2004 Mustang convertible. Yeah, it's a cool car and I enjoy riding in it.

I don't want deaf people buy used 900s or other models, because of mechanical problems or fluid leaks, Do you know what location of the belts such as alternator or A/C compressor is.... At the rear of the engine, the space between pulleys of water pump or alternator AND the firewall is about 4 inches clearance, real pain in ass. Backward engines that scare me.

Good luck for newbie mechanics.... However, the service writers will see the bulletins of the special service procedures for the vehicles, they might charge customer extra or tell lube guys as pre caution to servicing the lube jobs. I think. I never work for quickube shop.
