Russia must push claim to Arctic resources

Hey, Obama wants to restrict all oil development and drilling in the U.S, so why should USSR claim bother us? They know oil is the money maker. Yet we have more oil than the Middle East (oh, this is true, do some research before you open your mouth). Too bad we're not taking advantage of it but buy their foreign oil instead. What a nice, sound financial advice on how to use their natural resources (much to the Middle East's delight).

Tricky.

I remember a history professor said that if Canada wants to keep its claims, they need to start paying people to live up in the Arctic all year around-- otherwise people are going to keep challenging us.

why not wait and let them bleed dry? :)

well right now Obama is the President of United States so what happens now affects the future. I hope Obama is flexing the muscle at Russians and say "it's mine".

The U.S., Canada, Denmark and Norway have also been trying to assert jurisdiction over parts of the Arctic, which is believed to contain as much as a quarter of the Earth's undiscovered oil and gas.

The dispute has intensified amid growing evidence that global warming is shrinking polar ice, opening up new shipping lanes and new resource development opportunities.

There's a big dispute whether or not the region north of Alaska belong to the U.S. or belong to Canada due to inter-coastal territorial international laws.

somewhat gray. that's why USA should keep flexing its muscle and claim it!

Canada is building a military base in our northern area because we want to remind these polar countries of our sovernigty.

Good.

There should be a base or camp, civilian or military, on every uninhabited island along the outer rim of our territory.

It would sucks to have another Hans Island incident.

We already have a base there. You gotta figure out where it is. ;)

HINT: It is already in Arctic Region map that Fox posted.

EDIT: Oops I thought you mentioned an unhabited island until I re-read yourpost. Yeah I agree.

Yup, it is very hard to trust Russia due history about relation with between NATO and Russia, there's reason to say NATO because US, Canada, Norway and Denmark are part of NATO membership.

The government in Russia is very corrupted and their government owned oil company made trillion dollars, I believe so.
