In the aftermath of Rick Santorum's decision to drop out of the GOP race a curiously fact-less post appeared on President Barack Obama's 2012 campaign website.
"We now know who our opponent is," reads Wednesday's new message. "But what we're really fighting against is what our opponent has pledged to do if elected."
Mitt Romney scares the hell out of Obama.
So, with little in the way of his own successes to speak of since his election in 2008, let alone his inability to even come up with a convincing campaign slogan for 2012, let the battle of Obama's obfuscation -- and the retaliation of truth -- begin.

Actually, by review of the issues on Romney's website, the GOP frontrunner wants to cut the corporate rate to 25 percent because the current U.S. corporate tax rate of 35 percent is among the highest in the industrial world. By increasing the ability of America's businesses to better compete in the global economy, Romney believes they will have a greater capacity to invest here at home and to create more jobs and better wages for American workers.
Romney "opposes setting a timeline to bring our troops home from Afghanistan."
No. Romney opposes making national-security decisions "based on electoral politics". Instead, Romney would hold discussions with U.S. commanders in the field and review our plans of transition to the Afghan military. Afterward, withdrawal of U.S. forces from Afghanistan would be based on conditions on the ground as assessed by those military commanders.
Romney would "starve investments in clean energy research."
Ah, yes -- "investments" -- Obama's new code word "tax dollars," like the millions in American tax dollars he has wasted on companies like Solyndra and useless wind farms and the millions he wants to spend on things like algae research because "if we can figure out how to make energy out of that, we'll be doing all right."
While taking steps to safeguard the environment, Romney would support construction of the Canadian Keystone pipeline and take advantage of America's own "cornucopia of carbon-based energy resources" to expand U.S. energy independence.
Romney wants to "make it harder for students to afford to go to college."
No, he wants to make it harder for students to undertake loans for college tuition they can't afford while improving the quality and access levels of other options that fit their budget.
"Post-secondary education cannot become a luxury for the few" Romney's website explains. "Instead, all students should have the opportunity to attend a college that best suits their needs. Whether it is public or private, traditional or online, college must be available and affordable."
"He'd outlaw a woman's right to choose and completely cut funding for Planned Parenthood."
Wrong. Romney just wants to uphold the Hyde Amendment , "which broadly bars the the use of federal funds for abortions." The reason why he wants to cut funding for Planned Parenthood is because they provide more abortions than any other organization in the United States.
According to Planned Parenthood's own March 2011 services report, 332,278 abortions were performed on some of Planned Parenthood Federation of America's three million clients in the year ending June 30, 2009 alone and accounted for around 37 percent of their revenues.
As for the economy and whom Americans trust more when it comes to allocating America's "investments" in the future, the Rasmussen survey released Thursday shows 49 percent express confidence in Romney versus the 39 percent who would still put their faith in Obama.
If the election were held today, a poll released Thursday -- conducted by Shaw and Company Research (R) and Anderson Robbins Research (D) for Fox News -- showed Romney beating Obama by a margin of 46 percent to 42 percent.
Yes -- considering the president's lack accomplishments and a platform that offers little more than erroneous criticisms of his opponent's alternative plans for the future -- Romney scares the hell out of Obama.
