RIT Offers Math Competition for Deaf or Hard-of-Hearing Middle School Students - oneidadispatch.com
Deaf or hard-of-hearing middle school students from across the country can participate in Rochester Institute of Technology’s fifth annual Math Competition for Students Who are Deaf or Hard-of-Hearing, April 8 – 10, 2011 at RIT’s National Technical Institute for the Deaf.
This competition for middle school students in grades 6 – 8 who are deaf or hard-of-hearing, is designed to promote math as fun and engaging and features three rounds that test speed and accuracy, teamwork and additional math skills. Cash prizes will be awarded to team and individual winners in several categories. The competition features problems from MATHCOUNTS®, a national enrichment, coaching and competition program that promotes middle school mathematics achievement and involvement in every U.S. state and territory.
The first 25 schools that submit completed registration forms and payment, or payment authorizations, will be accepted to participate in the competition. Registration will be closed when the 25 school limit is reached. The registration deadline is January 15, 2011.
Registration is $80 registration per team (four students) or $20 for students who register individually. Coaches and students wishing to participate in the next competition can get more information at RIT - NTID - Math Competition for Students who are Deaf or Hard-of-Hearing - Featuring Problems from MATHCOUNTS.
Parents and teachers are encouraged to accompany the students during the weekend, which offers fun and social activities in addition to the math competition.
