It is very important to always be careful about the information you give out on the Internet. Somebody made a very innocent comment here yesterday about a recent achievement. I saw the comment this morning, and in less than 10 minutes I was able to use that information to find out her real name, her parents’ names, what her parents look like, and the phone number and address of her employer. I immediately notified her and one of the moderators, and the information was promptly removed.

There are just too many loonies in the world today, and they all have Internet access. So please—always think twice about the information you post about yourselves and others. We, especially, need to be careful—our inability to hear normally impairs our ability to defend ourselves from criminal attack. Practice safe posting—the life you save may be your own.

I don't think its as much of a problem as there are too many crazy people in the world, as it is that with all that it is too easy to obtain personal information today. It is too easily accessed. Example, with the work I do, a lot of personal information is trusted to me throughout the day. I could easily take something as simple as a phone number and within minutes, I could have that person's name, address. etc. Even a little longer, and I could have family members' info, too. It is VERY important to watch what you post, and sadly, even details such as a person's achievement, like the example used, is enough info to lead to obtaining bunches more.

I was told tonight that no one is ever safe from anything once they start posting online. I would have to agree with that quote because anyone can very easily use the internet search engines for your private information.

Shakey Internet

I agree 100% with Cookie Monster. It only involves COMMON SENSE. If you want to unload, pay a shrink!

:gpost: and thanks for taking the time to care about all of us here on AllDeaf Levonian. Sometimes we don't realize what we post could lead to the opening of our personal lives and identities.
That was a good catch you made, and letting the Mods know shows how much you really cared. Thank you again!!!! We will all have to learn to be more careful from now on with our postings. :ty: Levonian

yea eventually i am little worried because i saw one post in this AD that has home ph nbr. i think it was rjr something that did leave his ph nbr in post somewhere. i do hope he needs to remove his immedicately.

MODs, maybe u may remove that number if you can for safe reason. it is rjr2004 or something.

{Mod Note: If you or anyone can find that number, the thread, post number, I'll be glad to remove it and send it over to me via PM, if anyone here has some concerns with information here in AD and/or in need of an 'edit', also PM me or anyone of the other Mods--thank you Levonian for a timely and good advice to give for members here in AD! :thumb: ~RR}

;) Good catch Deafclimber, we need to keep his identity safe too. See? We do care about each other, and look out for each other, I think this is so awesome, and commendable. :applause:

Does not matter if you give or not, still hacker can find out your IP address VERY easily! This is a joke to think this way.

Same with password, I have WITNESSED few people who did cracked passwords I dropped my jaw on how easy it was (like less than 15 seconds)! So, best is to change as often as you can.

don't give out ur IP Address, too.

Same with firewall, anything built in firewall is a JOKE!

The best defense, which don't come off cheap.

Get your own proxy server service, they change IP address frequently and can rotate to confuse hackers. This beats having firewall, and usually proxy server have their own firewall system which jamming the packets and send back to hacker with false information and get them to nowhere to find you.

cost? at least a hundred dollars a month.

this is too true. once my daughter put her dad's name in search engine...came up with his full name driving directions to his home name of his employer...his hobbies...what the best gift to buy for him....we were all suprised....its scary...

there's always discard WAN ping on the firewall, so the hackers won't know ur computer is visible INTERNALLY
