Ok, since my last thread was closed for some reason, I would like to continue with my questions. I do appreciate the ideas that I got from the people who posted on my other thread. Please keep this one a little less argument centered. Sources for studies are awesome, but I am also looking for the opinions of people who deaf, parents of deaf children, ect. Thank you.
So my questions are:
what style is more preferable when it comes to education for deaf students: oral, ASL, or both?
How are students in oral schools taught? what methods are used?
Would the idea of having a few centrally located schools in each school district developing a specialized program for the deaf/hoh (using a mix of ASL and oral methods) be a good idea? This is mainly for those who can't go to a deaf school for one reason or another (money, distance, ect.)
Is the ability to get to a place that offers a quality education for the deaf a major factor in deciding which school should be attended?
If any of these questions don't make sense, just let me know. Again, I would really appreciate any help I could get. Thanks!
