Report: Central African gorillas may go extinct

I recently researched endangered animals to teach my cub scout den. Monkeys and apes, tigers, the list grows. It makes me very sad.

A good number of Americans are entering Canada to kill grizzly bears since they are endangered and cannot be killed in the USA. It's a real shame.

You mean legally, right?

Good question. I know for a fact you need to obtain a permit from the government to hunt grizzly bears in BC. Every year they have an open season on grizzly bears. Funnily enough, the majority of people in BC are against bear hunting.

It brings in a lot of money for the province.

Of course, permits are needed and they charge more for non-residents; the point is it is allowed based on your fish and game people being wise stewards of the land, animal populations, etc to keep everything in balance.

Take, for example, Minnesota where I grew up, the average annual whitetail kill was 300, 000 head and here it is some 40 years later, that number is about the same, testament to good policies.

Normally, there's no annual moose season there (Minnesota) but on occasion, their numbers grow to a point where there is an open season on them and permits are issued on a lottery basis.
