It depends on where you park. Once I let a friend drive my car across Kansas, and he put the parking brakes on, unknown to me. I drove from there and discovered that the brakes got completely burnt out. Dang, I really had choice words about his need to use parking brakes on pancake surface areas.![]()
always on when parking.
Vehicles with drum brakes will adjust automatic when apply parking brake pedal or handle on. Many times, I see excessive clearance between shoes and drum surfaces that indicates the motorists who didn't use the parking brakes and can cause excessive brake pedal travel. Also can harm the automatic transmission for break the transmission case. For manual tranny, it can harm the clutch plate.
When you park on the driveway or park in the garage, you leave the parking brake ON or OFF?
And one more thing-
When you park on the parking lot of any store or company, you leave it ON or OFF?
Thanks.
Wow. That sucks.
Where I came from is everyone always leaves it on. But when I moved to Texas, some do leave it off. I guess, it is flat here..?
A transmission (automatic or manual) is not primarily designed to hold a vehicle stopped.
Stopping or holding a vehicle is better done with the brake.
And for most vehicles, brakes are much cheaper than transmissions to repair or replace.
LMAO You'll keep doing fine.Disappoint me. I want money money money on transmission repairs:P

Be ware of the service writer/mechanic can rip you off for replace a new brake master cylinder that is not cause excessive brake pedal travel (like floor brake pedal) because the rear brake shoes in the drums need to be adjust or replace adjusters BEFORE verify the thickness of shoe linings and measure drum diameter to make sure there is no oversize. Most experienced mechanics will clamp the hydraulic brake hose(s) in the rear to check if the brake pedal is firm effort, indicates M/C is good but mechanics can sell a customer a new master cylinder and bleeding brake fluid. Service writer or mechanic will not tell a customer about excessive clearance in the rear brakes. If a customer ok to new master cylinder then mechanic will clean and adjust the rear brake shoes then replace a new master cylinder and bleed brake fluid. REPAIR RIP OFF!!!.
BUT if the front /rear brakes are sound excellent, no sign of external fluid leaks, then replace master cylinder, is normal, NOT repair rip off.

I remember having mine frozen a few times and driving regardless.I live in colorado, never use the parking brake....![]()
