The car is a 1997 Mercury Mountaineer. I had one of my regular bike customer tell me that the car muffler was loud. I did nothing about it. Pretty police lady pulled me over and told me that the transmission was making loud noise. Later, bought the car in. It was 1 fan belt that was making loud noise. Now it's fixed. No more noise. The car. Has about 214,000.

 Apparently your city have No Noise law. City where I live don't have it and they allow Harleys and all motorcycles exhaust system unbuffered for protection. They do that because of Soccer moms on road. Twice, I drove a car with broken exhaust pipe. It was so loud and sounded like 4 cylinder motorcycle. No one complained even cops with window full down don't even wince over it. I had a blast for 6 months and decide to fix it

I've rode 1200cc harley chopper around the block. It have 20 inches pipes unbuffered and it thumps and shook ground, the exhaust shoots flame like torch. I thought it's cool and mean but I refuse to ride down in city where he live that have No Noise law. It's a cop magnet. :eek2:

I used to drive a Cadillac with a muffler that was falling apart. It was loud. No one complained, but I failed the emissions test when I got it inspected. So, I had the muffler replaced. Quiet. :(
