Bush Coming to Memphis
March 7, 2005

Memphis, TN - President Bush was a no show in Memphis last year during his presidential campaign. Republicans say he didn't have to, this is Bush Country. "He wasn't here as much because he felt like this was a bush state and I'm proud of that," says Shelby County Republican Party Chairman Bill Giannini.
Now the President expects you to listen to his plan to overhaul social security. A plan that could define his legacy. "Most of us are skeptical we don't believe his private accounts will help social security, it going to hurt social security," says Tennessee Democratic Executive Committee member David Upton.
At Republican Headquarters in Memphis, phones are ringing off the hook about the president's visit.
"We want to make sure that good people come out to our event Friday morning, there's a lot of interest," says David Kustoff with the Shelby County Republican Party.
The Democrats on the other hand are also planning their counter move. Don't be surprised to see demonstrations outside the convention center and on the president's motorcade route. "A forum or a demonstration Thursday night and Friday morning. Two opportunities to come out and speak their minds," says Upton.
President Bush is scheduled to arrive in Memphis Thursday afternoon and will be speaking at the Cook Convention Center Friday morning at 9.
