Historic Hotel Normandie Is LA's 1st 'Pot-tel'
LOS ANGELES -- The historic Hotel Normandie held a grand reopening Tuesday for a special new clientele -- pot smokers.
The hotel in Los Angeles' Koreatown was built in the Roaring '20s as an elegant residence. Now the new owners hope to recapture that free-wheeling spirit as the city's first hotel friendly to medical marijuana smokers.
John Evangelista, a real estate investor, bought the Hotel Normandie in January and called on medical marijuana activist Dennis Peron to pursue the possibility, the Los Angeles Times reported.
Peron told the newspaper that converting the 106-room brick building into LA's first pot-friendly hotel was "a logical step."
"It's a big city. And they needed me down here," he told the paper.
Peron and his friends plan to sell two-day packages at the hotel for -- what else -- $420.
