Hey, anyone who had pomeranian dog.

Have you ever experience with pomeranian from age 6 weeks old as a puppy? Or 9 weeks old?

what does pomeranian like and dont like??


My friend adopted 8 weeks old... she has two small girls. Lately her doggie did snap a little at her and her girls.


I dont want to tell her that most of small dogs dont like to be rough or they will get rough back to them. EH..

TEACH ME ABOUT WHO OR WHAT TENDENCIES OF POMERANIAN DO>>>

Poms tend to be snappish and bossy. And they like to be the center of attention.

I think putting a Pom with really small kids is almost a recipe for disaster.

It is way too fragile and they can hurt it. And it is almost certain to bite if they handle it too roughly.

Yes that is what I thought so.. Not because of pom, most of small dogs do that. I hate to break the words to my friend about it. I wanted to tell them that they should adopt the sized small-medium with good personality only if they can handle children. eh.
 
I purchased my baby at 8 weeks from a litter of 4....She is now 6 years old...ahh...Just love her to death!...They are skittish and will "nip" the leg of someone they don't trust or they feel is too close to their owner....(as my doggie did)....They are very loyal doggies with the "heart of a Lion"....no matter how big another doggie is, they will try to protect you. As for attention.......they are "attention whores"...:giggle:...My doggie picked up the habit of humping a stuffed animal whenever someone came over and she was ignored for awhile....Just to get attention, (I'm guessing)...

Feel they don't do too well with very small kids...my boys were older when I got her. I do brush her several times a week, paying attention to any knots on the back of her ears..They love to be pampered and brushed...and give them a lot of Praise.... have her nails cut once a month....Health-wise, she is very healthy....a little "chubby" of course....And yes, they are "bossy" around other doggies...mine will try to hump another dog, no matter if it's a female or male....

My doggie and I are very, very close, she will not allow anyone on my bed at night. She's very obedient also, will "come...sit...stay"...She follows me all around the house also....They also "pout" when you leave without them, but they get over it quickly with a little Love....and apologies....Feel they make very good "one owner" doggies....very good lap dogs also. And are beautiful...I get lots of smiles and laughter from my doggie....She's my heart.
 
Yeah, the two pomeranians didn't like having three school age boys around. It'd be sleeping under the bed when we would come home from school and if one of us sat or jumped on the bed, he'd come snarling and spitting mad out from under the bed. Loud noises, running kids, flying objects, and all other manners of kids being kids would set them off. It wasn't until later as an adult that I found out that they were sensitive to such things. We just thought it was funny and cute at the time and didn't really put much into it.

Treat them like they are Mariah Carey in tiny primadonna doggy bodies and you'd go well with them.
 
Thank you everyone.. i really apprecaite your time to post it here. I hope my friend realizes about this kind of breed. Hope she will keep him and learn how to teach her own two girls not to bother him.. oh thank you so much!
 
Botti is right in how fragile they are. Many small dogs find anything bigger than they are actually very scary and especially the fast and erratic movements of kids. They act snappy and snarly cause they're scared. Think of how you would feel if a gigantic alien loomed over you. And the people with the little dogs don't know.
There are some small dogs that a bit studier for the a busy, kid-filled household.
 
So far, i know that she keeps her.. SHe didnt reply back to me about how to handle dog properly. I think she feels bad that she didnt read the reviews first.


i ll check with her within a week to see how they are doing.
 
A friend of mine owned one during our high school years, but man, they might be cute, feisty and funny, don't let their cuteness fool you! LOL They have minds of their own and really curious. But in their minds, they think they are larger than they really are, sort of territorial and bark at anything that moves! I guess it seemed friendly with people and orher pets it knows, but when I visited, it hated my guts with a passion! :shock: I guess it's their thing to harass and be snappy, but when you get to know and socialize with it, they're more affectionate. I think they need to be supervised when it meets someone new though!

I was at the park with Marty last winter and he saw this small strange animal walking on 2 legs and my dog started to get excited . The animal
was a toddler wearing a winter suit that looked an animal and the hood had ears of an animal too . Marty really wanted to run after 'the animal' b/c it was making erratic movements I had to hold my dog back on his leash , I would hate to think want would happen if I allowed my dog to run lose, which
I never do . Plus small kids are right in a small dog space and some dogs do not like this at all especially if they're very protected for their food.
 
yeah, that's very true, WDYS! about small kids being right in the dog's space.
I'm sure Marty was very intrigued!
