Here we have a California teacher who banned a student’s drawing of our US flag she drew for her art class. The teacher said the US flag picture with “God Bless America” written on it said it was offensive! And said that the student cannot draw that! It's "offensive!" Sigh. This was the same teacher who praised a picture of Obama drawn by a different student in the class.

Soooo pc...

It sounds like too good.

One sided story. All we have is the mother's word and the child's word onwhat took place...and via Fox News.

Not enough information and too one sided to make any kind of determination.

That report included what was called an "official statement" from the superintendent of the school. There was no denying what that teacher did and she was suppose to apologize according to the school officials. Assuming what the story said is true and the picture shown was in fact what was drawn, I personaly don't see anything offensive about it.

Right, and if true, the teacher should apologize for her behavior.

Even so, we don't know what was the pov behind the teacher decision to get this banned. We don't know why that was done.

I don't see anything offensive about the flag.

I'll not comment any further on this.

Well lets assume the picture they showed was what the girl drew. It was an American flag with the words "in God we trust" on it. Of the two components in that picture, which one in a public school setting would be considered offensive? My guess is that it was the words "in God we trust" Hasn't God been removed from schools for quite some time now? I don't know that it should be considered offensive as much as a breaking of rules.

Since I don't have the teacher's story, it's best for me not to assume anything.

Although I think it's very likely you're right, however we don't have the story from the teacher, it could be for totally different reasons unknown to us.

Is there something in the water supply in California that causes idiotic situations like this with alarming frequency?

Could be. Maybe it's all that Salvia drugs they're ingesting.

Just because school administration disagreed doesn't make them correct. Nice try bucko.
Also the Obama comparison is another apples and oranges comparison. Nice try bucko.
The issue being separation of church and state. Moronic christian admin?? trying to slip in a sneaky one. nice try.
domino effect.
separation of church and state. it's very simple to understand.
oh I forgot. repubs can't think for themselves.
shrugs. boring people them folk.

Do you need the teachers story when the superintendent spoke on behalf of the school. I would assume he had the teachers side of it.

And the official statement from the prinicpal was neutral in context and intent. Again, not enough information. The word of 1 student and that student's parent.

That is the whole point. You cannot assume the story is true and the picture shown was exactly what was drawn. Nor can you assume anything about the teacher's response. Not enough information.

If you want to form an informed opinion based on all of the facts, then yes, you do need the teacher's story, as well as collaborating stories from other students in the class that witnessed the event.

If you want to jump in prematurely and pass judgement based on too little and one sided info, then no, you don't need the teacher's side of it.

Well said. I think you said it better than me. I prefer not to comment on stuff until I have all the facts.

As for the flag itself, I don't see anything offensive about it.

I did notice the mention of God but I didn't think it would be enough to warrant a ban. A gentle reminder regarding rules about God and Religion would have been much more appropriate.

Yeah, it could have been the religious reference that was being objected to. But we really don't know based on the story.
