Police: Freedom Man Opens Fire On Family

FREEDOM, Pa. -- A man is accused of killing his sister and brother-in-law inside his parents' house on Fifth Avenue on Monday afternoon, police said.

Police surrounded the scene of a deadly standoff on Fifth Avenue.

Tom Simich, 47, allegedly shot Marilyn and Steven Bergman, who were visiting from Palm Bay, Fla., according to Rochester police.

Police surrounded the home but had difficulty communicating with Simich because he is deaf. They used hand signals to convince him to surrender shortly before 5 p.m.

Simich's parents, both in their 80s, were not injured.

Police said Simich got into a dispute with his sister and brother-in-law, possibly over living arrangements. His sister was apparently trying to get their parents to move to Florida, but Simich, who also lived in the home, did not want them to go.

Simich was being held in the Beaver County Jail on Monday night. He will be charged with both fatal shootings, police said.

Sheesh, People nowdays use weapons when they cannot work out disagreement in a calm matter as adults. What a shame. (Shaking my head)

Like Cheri stated, it does seem like more people are resorting to violence measures in order to settle disputes. It's sad enough that this deaf man took upon himself by ending this in the matter he did so, possibly leaving the parents with no children to help (the parents) and be with, one's dead and one's going to be facing prison time (provided that he is found guilty of the killings). It's too bad that some ppls. can't take a breather and allow time for things to cool down instead of having knee-jerk reactions such as how this deaf man may have responded in this situation with his sister....
