Not sure if I'm even close, but I wanted to put my two cents in on the- "If I were born a man..." I thought at first he meant, he was thanking god for giving him a voice- not in the literal sense, but in the sense that "I can communicate, I can understand and be understood, I'm important" but now that I listen to it over again, it is worded weirdly and i'm not sure. Maybe that particular student, like ember said, felt that way.
Either way, that poem Kite was really good! I'm not usually one for poetry.
Yeah, that's how I feel about the "born a man" line. It's really ambiguous as to what he means.
Anyway, the "Kite" poem is really great. I didn't care much for the video and his delivery (I read transcript first, then watched video with headphones), but I think the lines are fantastic.
This would make a better poem if it were written in stanzas rather than spoken word, IMO.
Either way, I'd like to read/see more of his stuff.
