Forgive please, I am hearing and dumb! he-he-he:lol:. I have been learning ASL for a few years now and have several deaf friends in my town who I like to see and talk to, but can't call since I don't have VP. I want to talk to them more than at deaf socials and wanted to get a VP.

I was hoping you could tell me what you use, and where to get. I want to use one that I can use with my TV.

Thanks for helping me out!

If you want a VP, I think you will have to pay for it unless you decide to marry a deaf person.

For me as a deaf person, I don't care much about VP. I do have VP 200, but I don't use it much. I use text message more often. It works fine for me.

How about Skype? It's free. You use it on your own computer, and many use that. I think we even have a thread somewhere on here where you can find others to Skype with in addition to your friends.

Dumb, yes, stupid no. I have Googled it and not found very much help on that. I know about Sorenson and I can find their VP if I wanted to Apply to get it free. I don't want that, I am willing to pay. I am not deaf no deaf family member living in my home.

I am not a very big fan of Skype, I'd really prefer to have a VP in my home connected to my TV.

My girlfriend is hearing. I'm deaf. I've never been a big fan of VP. I do have VP, but I don't use it much. My girlfriend doesn't need to get VP to talk to me. We do fine via texts.

well - the biggest problem is getting a phone based numbering system for the hearing. Many VRS's companies will only give out software/hardware along with phone number for deaf/hoh who know sign all on FCC tab. Your question is not unique, and you are not the only one who asked about it. Every time if I had a nickel for every hearing person who can sign or in progress of learning sign that wants a videophone phone number based system , I'd be a millionaire by now.

currently the ONLY work around is use a IP based software/hardware to make calls to the deaf and exchange ip addresses when you want to make calls to each other. dlink eye2i (hardware), or microsoft netmeeting (software) is one of the few still capable of making calls via ip base. Problem is, you need to be tech savvy or find someone like me who can set it up for you and show you the inside and out of the system. When something changes, you also need to be aware of how to fix your own system (it happens more often then you think).

If anyone knows of a system that is easy for hearing to buy with no or minimal setup, I'd love to know.
