Plea to help deaf enjoy countryside - Evening Times

MORE facilities for the deaf are essential to allow the hard-of-hearing to enjoy the countryside.

A survey by Scottish Natural Heritage reveals they are often "excluded" from enjoying the rural experience.

The agency said it hoped to build on a scheme providing deaf-friendly facilities at the country's oldest National Nature Reserve, Beinn Eighe in Wester Ross.
Features there include a "sensory zone" allowing people to feel and smell natural objects such as pine cones, deer fur and gorse bushes.
