Plan to buy HDTV? Please be careful cuz of CC

I have test several HDTV and thought CC are great. But when I brought it home and find some problem show on CC. Such as there certain program, vary brand that display the size of CC.

I find Westinghouse 32" are difficult to read during small as it go that "bigger". Yet, it look small to me.

I decide to exchange to SDTV Philips 27", the CC show very good size to read. However, the odd about CC start to running over repeat. Let me saying that there is one sentence that goes on line then another sentence on same line as cover. What a mess! Maybe I thought it got mess up with ATSC when it got very little scramble/noise feedback.

So, I made finally exchange to HDTV Philips 32". Oh my gosh, it's much better! Every features on CC display flawless and everything what I like about it plus excellent features on other thing than Westinghouse as I have seen so far.

So, my thought that anyone should be extra careful and test CC at retails before buy.
 
Are you referring to ATSC (digital/HD) or NTSC (analog) CC. For ATSC, you can change font sizes and styles but for NTSC, the font size or style are always the same.

Sony should have very good CC decoders in their TVs. They keep updating their electronics to latest specifications. Sony is usually more expensive then other brands.

Also, for digital broadcast programs (using antenna), CC issues usually come from the local stations. I have e-mailed my local stations whenever I see digital CC problems and they usually (95% of the time) fix them quickly. One station had single sentence overlapping you described and I notified them and they fixed it the next day by downloading software patch in their equipment. I am a little surprised that swapping for different TV solved the problem.

You are absolutely correct. Be sure to test CC before purchasing new TVs. Ask the sales person to connect antenna to TVs in the store to test for digital CC.
