Piers Morgan jokes Marlee Matlin has deaf 'advantage' on Celebrity Apprentice - National Celebrity Headlines | Examiner.com
Celebrity Apprentice is down to the final two for the finals. Award winning actress Marlee Matlin and John Rich both were choosen on Sunday night as the remaining two competitors in a showdown for the top prize of being the next Celebrity apprentice and winning big cash for their charity.
In the final decision, the two were interviewed by past winners including Brett Michaels, Joan Rivers and Piers Morgan who asked questions about their background to make a final recommendation to Donald Trump.
One issue brought up in the interview for Marlee Matlin was being deaf. While companies who hire real candidates can’t discriminate about issues like hearing loss, apparently the rules didn’t apply when it came to this interview. In a comment that made everyone who watched the show uncomfortable, even Bret Michaels who was on camera tugging at his collar, Piers Morgan told Matlin he thought she had an advantage being deaf.
"I think it has been an advantage,” said Piers Morgan. “Because when I did the show I wished I was deaf most of the time. I mean seriously I couldn't have heard Omarosa speak. It would have been life great lessons.”
Marlee Matlin laughed off the remark on camera, but there isn’t anything funny about insinuating that a disability has an advantage in a business setting. The snarky remark was not only out of touch with today’s society, but makes one wonder why pointing out a disability is even necessary when Matlin proved herself on the task.
“I would suspect you would like me to not care about that [hearing loss] right?” asked Piers in the follow up question trying to let go of the uncomfortable feeling in the room.
Marlee Matlin and John Rich will do their best for charity in Celebrity Apprentice’s final task before revealing the winner of the season. It doesn’t matter what advantages or disadvantages the two have at the moment as they plan to put everything into their projects to win.
