Person who is deaf possibly making NFL team...

If he gets drafted, I know where he's likely headed!

As we all know... there have been basically two successful Deaf people in the NFL. The first is Kenny Walker. The second is Connor Barwin. Both defenses at the times were headed by WADE PHILLIPS. OH YEAH... his sister runs an all-Deaf camp called Heart Sign.

GO TEXANS!

Wow, how did Phillips family get involved in deaf/Deaf community?

She told me but... I don't remember. Heh! Here's a photo of us...

I wish Tony Tatum the best luck. Neither Kenny Walker or Connor Barwin had long careers in NFL. It seems like an average NFL career is 4 years.

I hope that Wade Phillips get another head coaching job like he had in Buffalo. He seems like a good guy. I hope he stick with NFL for many more years.

Kenny Walker kinda sucked.

Barwin's about to sign a new contract though. He did have an off season this year but he'll be around for a long time. I have no doubt about that.

I knew about Kenny Walker all along. I tried to check out Barwin and no information that I found indicated that he is deaf/hoh. I must be looking in all the wrong places.

WELLLLL.... Barwin's not culturally Deaf and he doesn't know any sign language. He was born deaf in both ears but had tubes and whatnot put in and now he can hear fine out of one ear but the other is completely dead. If you look at photos of him, you will see his ears are malformed from tube surgery. I guess I'd call him hearing impaired?

As you see... in the article it claims that his hearing was "fixed". KimAnn (Wade's sister, the lady in the photo with me above) says otherwise. She talked about Barwin's challenges and difficulties. Without Wade... he just wouldn't be the player that he is in the NFL.

Culturally deaf or not, I hope more people watch Barwin and maybe they will pursue a career in NFL. I wish Barwin the best luck. Texans are a solid team and should be for the foreseeable future.

I've never followed Wade Phillips, but now I'm impressed with what he has done with those who are deaf. Thank for sharing.

I hope so too! Barwin is a badass and a great role model. His community outreach is spectacular. He loves the kids, man! I'm sorry you didn't know about him until now.

Eff yeah! I heart Wadeeeeee Philllllllips!! Not as head coach though. Just defensive coordinator pleasethankyouverymuch.

Every where I turned, all the talks was about J.J. I'm a Chicago guy. I'm sure Barwin is well known only to Texans and hard core football fans. Casual Bears fan wouldn't have known about Barwin.

I hope he made it to NFL. I will pick him on defense fantasy football team player. :D

Les Miles' brother went to Gally.

Jeff Fisher (St Louis Rams) is deaf in one ear.

Martel Van Zant was great in college at OkState. I think he is in arena ball now. He could make the NFL someday.

Incorrect.

Bonnie Sloan was the first Deaf player to play in NFL with St. Louis Cardinals in 1973 or 1974.

Pierre Sevigny was the first Deaf player to play in any PROFESSIONAL football league when he played for Montreal Alouettes in CFL in 1960s.
