"President Bush issued an executive order in 2002 making it easier for foreign-born U.S. troops to naturalize. Congress further modified immigration laws late last year.

As a result, any legal resident who enlists in the military can immediately petition for citizenship rather than wait the five years required for civilians to start the process. Those in the military previously had to wait three years to become citizens. And $390 in petition and fingerprinting fees are waived for servicemembers."
Military service leads to an American Citizenship

Ahhh, I get it now. Thanks for clearing it up.

What exactly does the draft have to do with it? I was referring to illegal status.

Ohhhh,

Did you know I got classified as !-A immediately after I graduated from high school? Imagine the fun Dad had in calling Selective Service about it. :giggle:

Well, I felt it was in reference to my comment about ILLEGAL aliens being offered the chance to become legal by stepping up to the line. The draft, if you recall, was a manditory thing. I knew people that died, left the US, were incarcerated, or went over to Asia and returned. I do not recall many wanting to go. If they refused, they went to prison. If they wanted to avoid prison, they skipped town.

I am well aware that the draft was mandatory, even though it was called "Selective Service."

Without scrolling all the way back to confirm, I believe my comment was to Beowulf regarding why anyone entering the military would be offered legal status if they were not illegal.
