Penn State to be hit with 'significant, unprecendented' penalties

Also, it's fined $60 millions that will go to the victims so I guess there will be no lawsuits.

I am having a hard time understanding why innocent people are being punished. The person(s) directly involved should be the the ones having to suffer the consequences of the child molestation charges. A child molester has already violated his victims, and this punishment is now making even more victims of that one child molester.

When does it ever end?

This was one of the most sickening happenings I've read....and so many people knew what was going on and did nothing!....Even his wife acted "deaf and dumb" to the whole thing!....I would slap her silly!

It only takes 1 person to destroy so many lives....

The scandal has been extremely uneasy to the university, that's very unfortunately.

Unfortunately, it takes ONE player/staff to screwed everything up. The problem is Penn State staffs were the one covered everything up and pretended it did not happened - Joe Pateno included. The punishment made sense. Because they represents the school and NCAA. They need to set an example. I know innocents are being collected in punishment - that's sucks.

Right, Penn State officials are punished, not the students. If the students want to play football, then they have to go to another college.

Here is how I see it, and maybe I am seeing it from the wrong perspective :dunno:

The Penn State Football program generates a lot of income for the University. This means the faculty, staff, as well as the off campus businesses that rely on the University for part of their income, are all being punished. Every single one of them. Except, they had nothing at all to do with the cover up. So, why are they having to pay the price as well?

It just does not make sense to me. I mean, I absolutely agree that there should be a severe punishment .... but ONLY for those directly involved.

The tuition cover their incomes. As for football coaches and other staffs involved, they probably will get laid off. I know that most of them didn't do anything wrong to deserve it. Joe got away with it since he passed away. Some who knew about it retired or quit or passed away. I guess NCAA had to punish Penn State no matter what.

As I said that it takes ONE person to [censor] up everything. Penn State don't really make profit off from football game - I think NCAA gets the money and they spread it out to each conferneces. That's what I understand.

Look at USC, Reggie Bush took money during his time at USC and NCAA slapped harsh punishment at them. USC seems they’re doing fine with punishment and lot of good players transferred to different schools to show their talents or wanted to play in bowl. I’m sure Penn State players will do same.

I wanted to mention that - I know someone on iRacing who is Penn State alumni – I would link you there, but the membership is required, so I’ll quote it here:
George of Penn State Alumni said:
Everyone believes that Penn State is all about the football. To everyone on the outside, it's about the football. To alumni, we know that Penn State is a research university first and a place that we carry on integrity and honor. We will be just fine in that regard.

I'm good with the sanctions, I'm good with the monetary penalty. I'm good with the probation. I'm good with the charitable cause.

I'm not good with how the Board of Trustees, President Spanier, and this new President is treating Sue Paterno.
I'm not good with possibly taking their name off the library.
I'm not good with changing the name of the village campout.

Penn State and her alumni are OK with the NCAA. We are extremely angry at our own administration. They have not held up the traditions and teachings that they preached to us, and therefore is the reason why we hate our own.

They killed Joe, and they are going to send Sue to her grave as well.

Whoever knew about the incident and did nothing in the past are already retired and are still alive, do you think Penn State will get them?

Maybe they need to change their football mascot to a scapegoat.

The victims are the only ones I care about , Joe , Jerry and all the others that covered up the sexual abused and looked the other ways can rot in HELL!
Anyone that feel bad for Jerry or Joe is a part of the problem.

No one feels bad for the guys who were directly involved. Yes, they need a harsh punishment, child molestation is no joke. I feel bad for the ones who are made to pay the price that had nothing to do with it.

My comment on that is - so one person who claims to be alumni, is speaking on behalf of the entire University that they deserve it.

I don't think so!

Punish the board members, not the students and football players. Not the athletic department. Punish the individuals that allowed this to happen. Punish those who had direct knowledge and did nothing. The entire University is not guilty - the football players are not guilty.
