The Postsecondary Education Network-International, a grant program based at the National Technical Institute for the Deaf, a college of Rochester Institute of Technology, has been named a 2006 Education and Academia Laureate by the Computerworld Honors Program. The award, given by the Computerworld Information Technology Awards Foundation, recognizes organizations that use information technology to promote positive social, economic, and educational change.

PEN-International works with schools in China, the Czech Republic, Japan, the Philippines, Russia, and Thailand to expand educational opportunities for deaf and hard-of-hearing college students by sharing educational technology and conducting faculty development and training.

PEN-International will compete against Laureates in the education category for the prestigious Computerworld 21st Century Achievement Award, which will be announced June 5 in Washington, DC.

“Any recognition given by Computerworld is a shared achievement that reflects the commitment of RIT and our partner universities around the globe,” said PEN-International Director James DeCaro.
