A woman described as being obsessed with Paula Abdul has been found dead after apparently killing herself in a car parked outside the American Idol judge's hillside home.

"I am deeply shocked and saddened by what transpired yesterday," Abdul told E! News. "My heart and prayers go out to her family."

The county coroner has identified the victim as 30-year-old Paula Goodspeed, a fifth-season Idol auditioner with a long fixation on the "Forever Your Girl" singer.

"She has a history of mental illness," said Capt. Ross Bonfiglio of the Ventura County Sheriff's Dept.

While poilce say the cause of death appears to be a suicide, the official pronouncement won't be made for several weeks, pending the outcome of toxicology tests.

Goodspeed's family members in Thousand Oaks, Calif., reported the woman missing Tuesday around 3 p.m., said Bonfiglio.

The family member who notified authorities said Goodspeed hadn't been seen since 11 p.m. Monday night. The family member also expressed concern that Goodspeed might possibly overdose.

Ventura County officials, aware of Goodspeed's interest in Abdul, then informed their counterparts in Los Angeles, who found the woman's body about three hours later in the 3800 block of Beverly Ridge Drive in Sherman Oaks.

While Goodspeed had no prior arrests, her family did ask the LAPD and L.A. County Sheriff's Dept. to locate her after she went missing in January. Bonfiglio said the family was concerned at the time that she might try to harm herself.

Meyag2-> Geez, that she killed herself because "American Idol" Judge rejected her because she didn't sang that well, that's why. She was on "American Idol" back in 2006, I think. People who knew her from the neighborhood saying that she's kinda strange and different. One person who lived in the same building with her and saw her window drape open and she had Paula Abdul picture all over the wall. Also on the back of her car license plate that says, "ABD LV" stand for "ABDUL LOVE" I couldn't find her picture from google. If you find it. You can post her pic here, if you want to.

eh one less freako

I saw it on Nancy Grace last night her parents should had got that woman some help.

Hey Jiro. Try to show some sensitivity, ok? It's not easy living with a mental illness. I don't know what kind of mental illness Paula Goodspeed had, but it must have been pretty severe if she was obsessed with Paula Abdul and eventually driven to the point of suicidality. I think we ought to have more compassion for her, not call her a freak.

The article doesn't state whether or not Paula Goodspeed's parents tried to help their daughter. If they did, it's entirely possible that she refused to see a professional. That's not uncommon for people who suffer from mental illness.

Unfortunate.:| A woman measures her self worth by the comments of a has been pop star judge.

Some people with mental illness have such a deflated, poor self-image of themselves that instead of looking on the inside for inner strength, they look to others (especially famous people) for validation. It's sad, but true.

On Nancy Grace it was said that the parents did know that she had some problems.

Well, you know.. You both have a point. I really think we need to be more sensitive towards the mentally ill, but at the same time, I can understand why Jiro made the statement he did. Someone driven to stalk someone so they can kill themselves in front of them or kill them, is more then mentally ill. Sometimes, they are sociopathic or psychopathic. It's these people who have no business being on this planet. At least, that's my opinion.

I heard it mentioned on Nancy Grace, too. However, I didn't listen to the whole thing to catch exactly what may have happened.

If Paula Goodspeed's mental illness were addressed early on, it's possible that she wouldn't have reached the point where she was obsessed with/stalking Paula Abdul. If her parents refused to get her help, then they were doing a serious disservice to their daughter.

That's true, Hear Again. I'm going on the premise that we don't know what happened to the woman to make her do that. If she was sociopathic or psychopathic, she was beyond help. On the other hand, if she had some other mental illness, she probably could have been helped. It's obvious to me her parents dropped the ball somewhere along the line. In that view, her parents should be held accountable for this.

I agree. Perhaps the guilt they live with from now on for not helping their daughter will be enough punishment for them.

I'm just sorry she couldn't be helped sooner.
