Parents and carers of children with hearing loss are invited to a session aimed at building resilience in their child.

Being run by the non-profit organisation, Parents of Deaf Children (PODC), formerly Parent Council for Deaf Education, the session will focus on building your child’s inner strength, character and resilience.

Facilitated by psychologist, Berenice Tanner the session features special guests Bonny Porter from Channel 10’s MasterChef Professionals, and her mother, Ann, who is the founder of Aussie Deaf Kids.

The session will provide an insight into ways to build hope and optimism.

President of PODC Leonie Jackson, a mother and a deaf person herself, believes that building resilience in children is one of the most important skills we as parents can provide to our children.

‘‘It is so important to show your children that deafness can be no barrier to reaching their potential,’’ she said. ‘‘This parent session will not only aim to achieve this, but also to connect parents of deaf children with other parents for support and information sharing.’’

PODC supports families with babies, children and teenagers with hearing loss in NSW. The organisation offers a range of services for parents and carers, respecting the method or methods or communication that the family has chosen for their child.
