There is one kind of examination that I hated to go through....the "pap smear" (this is a examination test where the doctor opens the opening with some tool, then puts a swab inside to collect cells to see if there was cancer in the cervix). I had my first one done when I was in my early 20s.....I had a couple of more paps after that.
I haven't had one in a long time (since 1999).....partly because I do not like having this done so I avoid it...also because all of my paps were fine (no problems). I have never had sex so I don't think cancer in the cervix will happen (since you are supposed to be sexually active in order to have a pap smear)..or am I wrong?
What are your experiences with pap smears?

It is not a "fun" exam but it is very important.

It is an important annual health exam to catch cancer before it is too late.

It is for all women, whether or not they have sexual relations.

Sometimes finding a doctor that you are more comfortable with makes a big improvement on the process.

Please do not skip your exam.

I agree with you.

I really don't feel comfortable to go to the doctor just for pap smear, but I have to go there once a year no matter what!

Nancy if you don't want to do to the doctor, I would be
more than happy to give you a "pap smear"

Yes, I know the feeling, Angel.....well, I was told a suggestion that I can try a female doctor that I am more comfortable with on getting this done. I am going to see if I can find one here and have it done again. It may help this way. :)
Thanks to all for your suggestions :) ....and bbnt, I can't believe you said that. :squint:

nancy and angel...
u must go for paps smears NO MATTER WHETHER U LIKE THEM OR NOT!!! : :nono:

i don't mean to scare you... but a friend of mine didn't go for two years... cuz she was either too busy, on her period or didn't have insurance... finally she went for a pap smear... it wasn't normal this time... :Ohno: they found pre-cancerous tumors on her ovaries... and ended up going for a surgery to remove them!!! she was DAMN LUCKY!!! SO GIRLS PLEASE KEEP GOING!!! cuz u never know!!! i SCOLDED AT HER FOR DOING THIS!!!

pap smears are not comfortable... but i tolerate them.. since it only lasts like 2 minutes.. and my doctor is wonderful with me... i have known her for years...

Agreed. Important part is to have a Pap Smear annually. I had it before, it wasn't much hurt but slightly. Not just cervix, but also uterus, and ovary are important, too. When get older, have tender to menopause, etc. I understand your feelings, ladies. :)

There are more cancers that are not caused by sex. Ovarian, uterine (this is more common for older women but is NOT limited to older-- young women can get them), vaginal, etc.
And cervical cancer is not limited to sex (One cause is by a virus called HPV which can be sexually transmitted). It is a HUGE mistake to think that you are immune to cancers. Being asexual doesn't prevent you if you have a poor diet, poor immune system, family history of cancers (ANY type), et cetera.

If you want to learn about female cancers, go to this webpage which was sponsored and provided by UCSD's Cancer Center with the top doctor, Dr Georgia Salder leading this project. They have a RealPlayer video about cancers, how to prevent, choices of recovery, et cetera. And it is in ASL and voice-over ALSO with captions so TAKE YOUR TIME TO WATCH THE VIDEO.
They have other cancer-related videos too.. check them out too.

A pap smear is vital as some members here made it clear already. Let me to jump on the bandwagon and say: "IT IS IMPORTANT", even though it is a grueling doctor's visit.

I strongly recommend you to make an appointment as soon as possible. Remember, your sons need you, they could not lose you.

Every women really hate to go through like that but we must think of our children. They could not afford to lose their mothers.

My mother passed away in 1990. She had her ovaries cancer. My sister and I are high risky.

I have a female who is OB/GYN for 18 years. I feel more comfortable with female than male doctor.

I always have my check out every 6 months. Next week, Nov 9, I have appointment with my doctor for pap smear and breast examinations. I am used to it and it doesn't bother me, but health come first. I go see my doctor every 6 months.
