It is the name by which the very law that guarantees a woman's right to choose is known. I find it difficult to comprehend, as well, that anyone would confuse it with the Scopes trial in the 1950's.:hmm:

1950's? I could have sworn I remember hearing about that case was way back in 1925. It was Tennessee v. John Scopes, The "Monkey Trial".

I guess I am ignorant but what happened during the Monkey Trial? I guess I can look it up.

You are correct. The Scopes Trial was in 1925. The challenge to prayer in school began in the late 1950's by Madalyn Murray Ohair. She began the challenge in the late 1950's, and the courts upheld her in 1962. When I first replied, I wasn't sure if this was what Maria was referring to, or if it was the Scopes trial. I should have paid more attention to my dates.

Ah ok, No worries. :)

I had to ask to clarify this. Still, It's an interesting trial which was well known back in these days.

Anyway -- Let's get back on the topic regarding to Palin and her daughter.

Yes, this is a good site. Basically, the controversy was over Scopes teaching biological evidence of evolution, and the religious factions' disagreement with that. It was nicknamed "The Monkey Trial" because the religious opposition claimed that Scopes was teaching the kids that we all came from monkeys, and they preferred to believe that man just appeared on earth one day.

I don't like the republican foreign policy but you have to admire Palin for accepting and backing her daughter's pregnancy. Even though it runs against her belief against sex out of wedlock.

I like her loads more for supporting her daughter in a time like this. Some people would have presurized her into an abortion just to save face.
