Toronto -- Ontario residents who are blind, deaf or both are getting access to more services.

The province is spending $11-million this year to provide more services for people who need intervenors, interpreters or sign-language interpreters to help them with their daily lives.

The money was set aside in the province's spring budget and is an increase of nearly 65 per cent over current funding levels.

Social Services Minister Madeleine Meilleur says the measures will give people with disabilities greater independence.
