Gorey was the illustrator for lots of John Bellair's books which I really loved in my childhood.

I used to have a poster of the Ghastlycrumb Tinies - not sure where it wound up but I loved that thing. Edward Gorey was amazing. Each frame had a letter of the alphabet, a child whose name began with that letter, and an illustrated description of how that child died.

A is for Amy (!!) who fell down the stairs
B is for Basil, Assaulted by bears.
C is for Clara who wasted away
D is for Desmond, thrown out of a sleigh
etc.
