Ojo Videophone (Snap!VRS)

Anywhere in the house??? I thought it has to be nearby computer because of plug in with high speed from hard drive or something?

You can put it anywhere as long as the network cord can reach. If you have one that's 30 feet. You can put it up to 30 feet from the router or where you plugged in the network cord.

That's correct, you can easily purchase network cord at best buy and decide where you want your phone to be.

this Ojo is not heavy at all, easy to use, you can adjust the camera to be higher or lower, no more headache from staring at big screen on tv :)

Ojo has many application from deaf since Nov and more to come, there will be waitlist mean if you apply for one you will need to do follow up with them be sure your application got approved then you will get your Ojo phone within 4-5 months I cannot promise exactly how long you will wait but I do know you WILL get one.

OIC ... I already filled the application about alittle over month ago and still haven't heard from them yet. In meantime as I've just learned about the needs to have an extension cord to use, would be difficult because I'm renting a townhouse here. Right now I'm using computer downstair along with SVP but would like to have an OJO for upstair. I asked my landlord if this is okay with him to have someone, professional (from cable/phone company) to make a hole in downstair ceiling toward upstair floor. He said no. Bummer. Anyway I'm planning to move out of state in a few months so I better wait until then. Thank you!

There is also options for wireless too. If you have a wirless hub or router. You can buy a receiver that'll plug in to the phone network and set up a network connection. Just cost more and little more headache in setting up but no wires or going through floors or walls..

I have cable, not DSL. Will it work on cable?

Glad that christmas is over! Ah...

I've seen the OJO hooked up at a Deaf friend's house, and it only took a few minutes. The picture was very clear. I've also received SnapVRS relay calls, and they were interpreted very well (I'm a terp myself, so I notice those things :) ). The Deaf people whom I know personally, really enjoy using their OJO's. They also like the fact that they don't need to tie up the family TV just to make calls.

Unless you have vision problems, the screen is plenty big enough to follow receptively. Personally, I think the picture looks sharper when it's compact than when it's blown up on a large screen TV.

But each person has his or her own preferences. I think it's good that there are choices out there.
Reba, You actually convince me to get this one. however I need more resource about VP/ VRS before which one quality of vp/ vrs, is right for me to get one. :)

bbdqsony and Secretblend are accurate! Yes, it can be anywhere in house or backyard, unless you hook up wireless (remote i.e.) receiver into it. thats true simply.

How many have Ojo so far? Let's exchange # so we can chat on VP with Ojo. I fully support Snap!Vrs (relay service.... I use them everyday for work purpose)

Email me if you wanna chat on Ojo anyone with SVP I can chat with you guys too just email me your IP # to dial from Ojo phone.

Kevin

I just got approved for an Ojo phone. I had to contact them to answer couple more questions that they had. Now just need to learn ASL again since it has been awhile since I've used sign language.

I think Ojo is pointless.
We have VP, webcam (on computer/laptops), and why Ojo?
I believe if it is not free, nobody is going to buy one.

YES it is free, not everyone has webcam on their laptop, Ojo cam is pretty good, You won't have to boot up Ojo to just make phone call.

LAPTOP you will have to boot up, waiting for window to boot up then get online and type in relay service or get on cam to make vp call which will take 5-7 minutes, depend on how fast your cpu is. AND it doesn't have answer machine.

With Ojo you never need to turn it off, if someone wants to call you but your not around, ojo answer machine will automatically answer and they can leave you video message.

Secretblend: That's great you've applied for it...I suggest you to contact them once a month to get update to see how far you are on waitlist. I would say 4-5 months wait time, don't worry time will fly by. :whip:

I am counting on that long wait. I perfer they send it to me after I move to Austin and get settled there.

I know how Ojo works, but my opinion is that they are wasting. I would rather to see a cellphone "live-to-live" video chatroom, so I can show my friends when I am in Paris, or party, or to introduce my friends through the cellphone. Damn, can you bring Ojo to DPHH?

I gotta say keep dreaming :)

As of right now Ojo is smallest VP that relay service (Snap!VRS) provided to deaf people for free which is nice of them. Who know they might be working on making a smaller one. And yes you can take Ojo to Paris and use it there. it is for worldwide.

Keep dreaming? Sorry to say this - my dream "almost" comes true. Reason I said "almost", because there's no 3G in America.
You cannot bring Ojo right next to Eiffel Tower, unless you sleep hotel right next to it, or any places that have the internet.
If Ojo is not for free, would you buy one?

It sure is taking a long time to get my ojo. I got an email about it 2 months or so ago, then silence. Meanwhile, just got my vp-200.

After you apply for it, you are suppose to contact them via phone to answer few question, they will ask you if you use sign language, do you have router for modem port, etc etc. Then they will approve you. If you never got any email from them after 2 month which doesn't sound right. You should have of gotten email within same day or next day. I suggest you contact them and request them to find your application and if they cannot find your application. Give them the user name that you open account with them on snapvrs.

Let me know if you need help on getting ojo.

LOL :giggle: not at Eiffel tower or in tube... who knows someone will create cellphone for deaf to be able to sign language or something but I don't think it will happen so soon. maybe in 2050, who knows.

IF Ojo is not for free, will I buy it.... yes! Because tty is pain in the ass, and I cannot bring bulky TV to my desk at work to use SVRS. Ojo simple takes up small space on my desk, I am currently using ojo at work and I love it.

Anyone will buy Sorenson (VP200) if not for free? Doubt it...:ugh2:
