O'Donnell gets Coons for Constitutional Law 101
(CNN) – Christine O'Donnell received a lesson on the Constitution at Delaware's Widener Law School Tuesday, but unfortunately for the Republican Senate candidate it came during a debate with Democrat Chris Coons.

On the issue of whether creationism should be taught in public schools, a highly skeptical O'Donnell questioned Coon's assertion that the First Amendment calls for the separation of church and state.

"The First Amendment does?" O'Donnell asked during the Tuesday morning debate. "Let me just clarify: You're telling me that the separation of church and state is found in the First Amendment?"

Coons responded by quoting the relevant text: "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion."

"That's in the First Amendment?" a still skeptical O'Donnell replied smiling, as laughter could be heard from the crowd.

:ugh:

You're not the only one. The woman is enough to make me cringe in embarrassment.

Confessing to witchcraft is fine in the evangelist circles (regardless of accurate portrayal of Wicca) but but it's near certain political suicide to confess to stuff like that on the conservative circuit.

Her lack of knowledge on other subjects is facepalm worthy. </faceplam>

I agree with everybody. This woman would be laughable if she wasn't running for such a serious position! The scary thing? People WILL vote for her because of what she says she stands for. Hopefully, we have enough Evangelicals who will vote against her based on the Wicca admission, but I don't know. Frankly, this woman scares the you-know-what out of me. She's dumb as a rock, and she is NOT someone we need in office!

I would vote for her. Whether she is Wiccan or not. She must prove to me that she can do the job.

I'm Christian by the way.

Well, she's off to a bad start in convincing others she know what's she doing if she doesn't even know or understand the First Amendment. Her Witchcraft or Wiccan stuff doesn't matter much to me but it certainly will matter to others.

Bingo!

Her religious practices don't bother me, either, but if what we've seen so far is any indicator of her grasp of the issues, we're screwed.

The First Amendment states: "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances."

Are the WORDS "Separation of Church and State" in the First Amendment?

Is "Separation of Church and State" used to EXPLAIN part the First Amendment?

Did anyone consider also: that she was asking, if the words Separation of Church and State LITERALLY is in the First Amendment?

What do you think?

Homosexuality is part of the norm in regards to Human Sexuality.

For me, I do respect anyone's religion but it isn't okay for them to interfere our government and want adopt the law that based on religion.

I think MOST of us knows what the first amendment says and what it's about. What I'm concerned about is her lack of knowledge. She stated that homosexuality is an Identity disorder. It is NOT. She also has made other statements that, in my view, disqualify her for the position she is running for. In my view, she's a crackpot. I don't care for what reason; she just simply is and should NOT be running for office. God help us if she is elected, because, she doesn't belong in office.

Very well, that's a good question.

Speaking of the First Amendment, it's commonly interptued to mean that people are free to pick any religion that they want to belong to be it Islam, Wicca, the Church of Satan or the Southern Baptist Church.

Given this freedom to worship whatever God(s) you please to worship, it would make sense to keep church and state separate. Otherwise we would lack the freedom to worship as we please.

I don't think a Muslim (Obama is a Christian despite allegations) or a member of the Church of Satan would be a viable candidate given today's climate though.

Being mentally ill, and being mentally incompetent are two very different things. Anyone who exercises violence against another and receives satisfaction from imposing that violence is mentally ill. They can most likely be diagnosed with more than one disorder.

I am well aware of the facts of rape, given my profession, and the fact that I worked on a Sexual Assault Response Team for several years.

I disagree with that, a person can be violence and not be mentally ill. Thta is a crop out saying all rapists are mentally ill , the guy is trying say he could not help beating up a woman and raping her! I do not buy that shit! I had girlfriend that would had been gang raped if I was not there to help her. Not one of the of the guy was mentally ill.

In fact, you fellows maybe know that has based on the true story about Harry Potter is a gay in a real life I've read a surprised news.

I think you are right to some degree. Rape itself is NOT a mental illness. However, people who commit rape have traits that make them mentally ill. Traits like sociopathy and such. Personality disorders can sometimes lead to rape, and under the current mental illness guidelines, the personality disorders that might cause someone to rape would classify as a mental illness.

Personality disorders like sociopathy, Narcissitic personality disorder, and so on. Pedophilia also. So, yes, there are rapists who are mentally ill. I don't think it's a cop out, either, simply because it's the truth. It also doesn't mean that the rapists gos unpunished. So, I don't see where you're saying it's a cop out.
