Odds of finding E.T. never better: astronomer

Well duh! With the new 4G networks it's so much easier for E.T. to phone home

While I have no doubt that there's life on other planets, it's hardly a "waste of time." We have gained so much from learning about others.

"In another talk at the conference, Simon Conway Morris, an evolutionary paleobiologist at Cambridge University, will predict what alien beings might be like. He says they probably would look very much like humans."

Extremely unlikely. In fact, we are extremely LUCKY we even exist as a homo sapiens species. We nearly became extinct. He is just being too anthropocentric. :)

Just a thought. Have you ever wondered how ugly humans must look to animals. I mean even many really mean animals are cute and furry. Here we are with sparse/no body hair with a big ol patch of hair on top. I bet they want to :barf: when they see us. Good thing they can't talk because we might develop a complex.

And just think what it took for life to take place and see that advanced animal species thrived. A variety of factors had to come together for Earth to be habitable for advanced animal species. The distance from the sun. The orbital paths. The formation of our moon that produces changing tides on Earth. The atmospheric gas content on Earth that aren't toxic. The atmospheric layer, the ozone layer, the formation of clouds, the influence of cosmic rays, the amount of water on Earth being at 70%, the regular emittance of volcanic gases, our solar system that contains planets and gas giants that were responsible in helping reduce the number of meteors hit Earth by absorbing them, our own galaxy played an important role, how plants evolved and became interdependent plant species with other animal species for their survival and proliferation, and so on and so forth of some thousands of other steps along the way that helped make this Earth, our home, become a most hospitable planet for us, our animal and plant species.

Simply amazing when one actually sits down and see how all this had to happen that took several billions of years to get to where we are today.

Yeppers.

If we exist here, why can't anything else exist out there.

I'd love to facilitate communication between humans and aliens. I think visual language would be the best bet for the first time encounter.

No stupid shit like in Independence day with flashing lights and all.

Well, it took billions of years to get where we are today and umpteen millions of factors had to come into play at the Earth level, to our moon, planets, solar system and eventually our own galaxy in order for Earth to be habitable enough for animal and plant species to survive and thrive as opposed to micro-organisms ability to survive in extreme environment. It just boggles the mind once you sit down and realize just how much of this were involved. Although finding micro-organisms thriving in such harsh environment would be more likely to be found on other planets.

no "Well" needed at the beginning. I understood that.

Down the lines we adapted to live in this conditions. There might be superior beings living in harsher conditions whether it is hotter, colder, different gasses because they adapted for it.
