Can't they do that with spy planes?

All spy planes are long gone. U-2, SR-71, etc. Fighters/bombers are equipped with cameras however they must be over the target and can become a target.

Satellites are in as well as drones.

But defenseless civilians are trying to overthrow the government. :hmm:

I'll donate $10 to whoever will shoot a missile thru Muammar Gaddafi's tent.

I am Reba's source. Since I was on WWII destroyers starting in 1972, we started out with ASROC...

I'd say that all proves your credibility.

So, what you're saying is that we don't really do tests of cruise missiles? Okay, well, I guess that solves that. But I will stick by my original assertion that if we didn't use these missiles on Libya, we'd just find some other use for them. The defense contracts are already paid for.

For example, exercise missiles are not usually used near places such as North Korea or China. It sends the wrong message. Akin to me firing my pistol in the air near a robber. Never shoot unless you shoot to kill.

Yeah, but look what happen just a couple months ago of the coast of NK... a ridiculous situation that could have been easily avoided.

But hey, how do we keep the defense contractors in business? :hmm:

By starting questionable wars or finding already existing wars to supply/engage?

hmm. I don't buy your argument that was start or enter wars just to get rid of weaponry.

My brother told me a story years ago about when he was in boot camp in Chicago (Reagan Administration). He said the SEALs came in to give their presentation to the recruits. They had a slideshow presentation. One then asked why Quadafi decided to stop being such an a-hole during the Reagan Administration. He then said "This is why ... here is a photo of Quadafi from 5 feet away - it was taken by a SEAL. The Presidnet sent this photo to Quadafi with a note stating that we knew where he was."

No, I don't know if my brother was being honest or not, but a SEAL could definitely do that.

Breaking news: Libyan armed forces announce cease-fire

Yes I agree. SK using live fire exercises near the DMZ was risky. But NK did sink a SK warship[ with all hands first. NK has repeatedly crossed the border testing the south. I do understand why they must continually train. NK seeks any weaknesses in SK to plan an invasion.

I supprt SK. I own one of their motorcycles. All of my parts come from over there.

Umm....Reagan attacked daffy..... I remember them breaking in to TV when they did it. Pretty sure it was fall of 85 or Spring of 86

Vietnam has nothing to do with Libya. Where did I say it did?

This is a thread about Libya. You said if we weren't in Libya, we'd be elsewhere to feed the military machine.

I said I don't believe that excess weaponry is the cause for our entry into wars...Including this one. Not as a broad sweeping generalization, no.

And then you said, Vietnam, anyone???

You're the one who said people don't enter wars to get rid of weaponry. Remind me, why did an arm race between the Soviets and Americans break out?

No, you said you disagreed with the theory that we create war as a way to generate military expenditure. I answered with VIETNAM as an example.

I thought you were a history teacher (or is it ESL? or is it Geography? Or is it...), so you should know how the premise for the Vietnam War was fabricated, how it dragged on long after it was known that it was unwinable (do the "Pentagon Papers" ring a bell?), how much munitions were used, and how worthless and costly bombings were used daily without having much effect other than to destroy rice paddies and blow up water buffalo...

That all adds up.
