Canada gets Obama's 1st foreign visit as president

U.S. president-elect Barack Obama plans to travel to Canada for his first international trip after he takes office, the Prime Minister's Office confirmed Saturday.

"We have been in close contact with president-elect Obama's transition team. We can confirm that the president-elect has accepted the prime minister's invitation to visit Canada soon after he is inaugurated," a statement released by Stephen Harper's office said.

U.S. transition aides also said Obama picked his country's northern neighbour as his first venture outside the United States as president, but they added they could not discuss the date for the trip, nor its agenda.

A transition official said aides to the president-elect and Harper discussed the trip in recent days.

But the official said Obama and Harper themselves have not directly discussed the trip.

On Monday, Obama has a meeting scheduled in Washington with Mexican President Felipe Calderon, his first meeting with a world leader since he won the election on Nov. 4.

Obama's inauguration is set for Jan. 20.

In 2001, after George W. Bush was sworn in for his first term in office, he went to Mexico, breaking the long tradition of reserving the new U.S. president’s first visit for Canada.

The Parliament already passed a law that allowed our troops to stay in Afghanistan until February 2011 so we have to stick with their decision.

If Harper die by shot and get new Prime Minister (not come from Conservative, only Liberal or NDP), they can change a law!

Now Harper is our Prime Minister since 2006, he been cuts many many many funds! all money went go to get new stuff for Canada Army, Navy and Air Force!

We have to keep the soldiers in Afghanistan because we have to stabilize the country's government. We can't just cut and run because it'll make matters worse. That's the situation the USA is in at the moment in Iraq. They can't cut and run because they know they will pay a big price for it later on if they don't finish their job.

The Conservative party of Canada is pretty different from the Republican party as far I am concerned. The conservatives here are more progressive.

I really not care if Canada is dead mean not me, it's was all Canadian people fault! all Canadian don't know how to heart Canada. I am not war person and I don't give a crap about third world, I do care about my own familys and I do care how much Canada is important for Canadian people, my sisters and my cousins was soldiers and they really NOT want go to Afghanistan! they was upset when Harper did won a election! I did asking my cousin and he told me, his army base and most soldiers really not want go to Afghanistan, war is not worth it! Bin Laden don't exist in Afghanistan. This is my opinion and I do care is no war unless no one attack on Canada's own soil! Not really, Obama will keep Afghan war as long as rid of terrorism, also possibly in Pakistan for war on terrorism as well.

Obama has no power to control Canadian PM, also both of Afghan war and Iraq war aren't same, they are totally different situation and I'm very strong support of Afghan war.
