NSHR settles dispute between deaf man, SCB - Arab News

The National Society for Human Rights (NSHR) has intervened to end a dispute between the Saudi Credit Bank (SCB) and a deaf and dumb client who flew into a fit of rage after he was told that his brother had stolen SR40,000 in compensation paid out to him for damage caused by the recent rains and floods in Jeddah, the organization said Tuesday.

It said one of its members was on an inspection visit to the Real Estate Development Fund (REDF) and the SCB when he saw the man raging at staff who were not able to communicate with him.

The society asked the bank to train their staff on how to communicate using sign language.

The society said it noted large crowds of people at both the SCB and REDF, where citizens come to ask for family, social and car loans.

It added that a number of citizens asked for vocational loans as well as building loans without having the required piece of land.

The period for loan requests in person will end today (Wednesday), while online loan applications as part of the "Muyasar" campaign will start at the end of June.

"We wanted to convey our remarks and observations to the manager of the SCB, but he was not in his office," a spokesman for NSHR said.
