Nonprofit created to aid Oregon School for the Deaf | StatesmanJournal.com | Statesman Journal
Supporters of the Oregon School for the Deaf recently created a nonprofit organization to raise money for the school. The money will be used to enhance programs and services for students.
Friends of OSD will kick off its efforts this fall with three $500 grants that will enhance classroom activities or projects, said John Freeburg, the president of the Friends of OSD's board of directors.
"We hope to drastically improve that number (of grants)," he said. "In the longer range, there may be scholarships and other things that we support."
The nonprofit will not pay for things that board members see as the state's responsibility, such as textbooks or heat for buildings, he said.
For information or to join the group, go to FriendsofOSD, e-mail friendsofosd@me.com or send a letter to P.O. Box 15053, Salem, OR 97309.
