News 10 serves deaf community - Times Union

Kudos to News 10 for reaching out to the deaf and hard of hearing community during recent severe storms.

During each snowstorm, News 10 provided real time captioning that other stations (YNN, CBS6, NewsChannel 13) did not provide. As a result of this real-time captioning of breaking news, weather reports and even chitchat, I felt that I was in tune with what was happening in the Capital Region.
Other Capital Region news programs provided prerecorded captioning, which continues to be unacceptable because it fails to include chitchat and "live" news reporting.

Furthermore, News 10 was the only station that provided all-day coverage with real time captioning during President Barack Obama's visit to General Electric. NewsChannel 13 only provided real-time captioning during the President's speech, but it did not include chitchat and pre- and post-
coverage.

I appreciate News 10's efforts to reach out to the deaf and hard of hearing community. I look forward to future News 10 programming with real time captioning.
