What model of your linksys? If you see linksys with Cisco then it won't work with Vp200 because Cisco rid H.323. H.323 is do for communication audio and video thru network.

You can Contact to SorensonVRS for troubleshooting.

Ok thanks Highlander the local store has that model from dlink.

Once I get it is it just plug the VP200 in and away I go or do I have to do some changes to the setup in the router.

Dustman, do you have your member of Purple (HOVRS)?

Hi Chevy,
No I do not have member of purple (HOVRS).
Is that something I need or should get?

Ok Highlander I went out and got the Dlink router you said to get if you could just guide me through the settings in hooking up the vp to it I will forever be in your debt.
Thanks,
Dustman

I work for Purple. If you interest to get MVP, you may contact me at PM or AIM.

When you got your VP-200, didn't the installer who installed it get it working for you? They should have done that before they leave your house.

I need to know what modem you use for your ISP and what name of ISP.

Or their old router is worn out and need replace with the new router.

Dustman, Other hand... You can contact to SorensonVRS and they will send installer to come over your house and fix for you and probably give you Sorenson router (SR-200) if need. It's FREE

I believe it is a Motorola or RCA Modem, not sure though, will look when I get home from work.

I do know some friends who have the Sorenson Router and there Internet speed is alot slower with that installed along with there wireless router.

My Interent provider is Comcast.

The WBR 2310 looks like a nice unit, thanks for the suggestion.

Also highlander I have been doing some reading and is it a security risk if you use the DMZ option on the router to get the VP200 to work, since some ports are open to the public so to speak.

My other firend has a Linksys Router and uses the DMZ option with the
DD-WRT firmware but he said some of his ports are unsecured.

Do you have any info on this?

Thanks

Motorola and RCA modem are no problem for Comcast. Should work fine.

DMZ just direct to VP200 if you put correct IP address. You can check on Online Port Scanner | Port Scan | Port Scanning | Portscan Tool to make sure ports are secured.

Here a guide for WBR 2310

Open a web browser like internet explorer or Netscape. Enter the ip address of your router in the address bar of your browser. In the picture above the address bar has Google in it. Just replace all of that with the ip address of your router. By default the ip address should be set to 192.168.0.1.

You should see a box prompting you for your username and password. Enter your username and password now. By default the username is admin, and the password is blank. Click the Ok button to log in to your router.

Click the Advanced button near the top of the page.

Click the firewall settings

Check Enable DMZ host.

Set 192.168.0.125 then click save settings.

192.168.0.125 is VP200's default static IP.

Then reboot router and vp200.

Here a screenshoot.

Hey thanks so much Highlander I got the VP to work with the test call.

I ran that shields up website port checker and it said that certain ports are open to the public.

Guess that is due to the DMZ being enabled for the VP.

Is that something I should be worried about?

Thanks so much for your help.

There is confusion about DMZ and security concern, actually you would improve security if you set DMZ to a device that has no value to hackers or whoever wants to break in. There is nothing for hackers to gain from VP unit. The Videophone is actually stand alone device and pretty much like dummy one. Its only function is to make a call and receive incoming calls, that is it, nothing else no sensitive data is available on VP unit.

That is what makes your computer safer when you assign DMZ to VP. It also "Forces" all hackers to re-direct to the VP not your computer. That is how it works.

It is always best to have modem connected to SR-200 then SR-200 connect to whatever router you would like it to be, as long as it has different subnet. For example if you hook up SR-200 to Dlink, then you may need to change subnet on Dlink, while Linksys happen to have different subnet by default so no need to change.

Good job!

What ports

If I do hook up 2 routers I know people who say there Internet speed is about cut in half.

Is that true and any way to get around that.

My friend has 2 routers and his hookup is as follows. cable to modem,

modem to SR-200 Router, SR-200 to DLink Router, all using the wan port.

SR200 to VP200 using port 1.

Dlink to PC using port 1.

We did a speed test and the before and after where 15989/8988.
